After several more calls to Apple on the sad saga that is the replacement of my laptop, I got a message today from Unnamed bossy German-sounding woman (now known as Named bossy-but-useful woman of unknown national origin). The message informed me that the new machine had now been ordered (funny, I thought that was supposted to happen last Tuesday when I called with the tracking number after sending the broken old laptop back), but that the estimated ship date wasn't until the end of the month.
Somewhere out there, Apple must have customers who are fine with not having a computer for over a month, but I'm really not one of them... I called back and led a reading of the riot act (the four-part harmony I prepared for the ocassion was truly stunning if I may say so myself). An hour later, I'm told that a new machine is waiting with my name on it over at the Apple Store, all of ten minutes away. I go over there, by some small miracle, everything actually goes according to plan, and bits are happily streaming across a FireWire cable as my backup (woohoo for backups!) is restored. Why couldn't we have done this a week and a half ago? I haven't a clue.
Best of luck to Robert with his similar situation. (I simply must rip off Robert's awesome site layout one day.)
Posted by zach at October 4, 2005 7:20 PMI'm ordered too (have been since the 23rd). I'm hoping it ships soon, though could be another week (plus a few days to actually get here, since it's from China, and customs likes to be nice and slow). If it ships today, there's a slim chance I'll have it for the weekend, otherwise I'm out of luck for another week.
Btw: that theme is just a slightly customized version of Kubrick:
