(No, this has nothing to do with Mozilla.)
I just got back from the doctor's office for a routine checkup, the first I've had in seven years. I thought I was doing okay, and the doctor agreed. I'm doing "okay".
Unfortunately, I'm not doing "great", and that "mid-twenties growth spurt" I talked about a few months ago and honestly believed was happening... isn't. I'm still about 5 ft 9.
In short, I am a bit overweight, and the doctor is advising me to lose 20-30 lbs, about 3-4 lbs a month.
Aside from that and some high blood pressure, I'm doing well. But I am distinctly humbled.
But that's not going to stop me from making my life better. I'm not doomed, and I intend to get myself back where I belong. I may be humbled, but I'm also determined.
I know the doctor's requests are not unreasonable, that these are easily attainable goals. So I'm going to do it. I may have been lying to a lot of people (most especially myself) about my physical condition, but that ends now.
I moderate the XML forum at CodingForums.com, and I've been helping out there for years. So when George (my good buddy "WA") started blog.codingforums.com, I figured I'd send a few people his way.
I've written nothing for the blog yet (it's just getting started), but I'll welcome your ideas for topics. The audience there is your average web designer. Thus, it's a good place to evangelize about standards.
By the way, this is my 200th weblog entry.
At least, not exclusively. The content-types for Mozilla accepting files as JS have just been expanded. As a result, there are a number of new content-types, including (at least for now) application/javascript and application/ecmascript.
It's still too early to propose a widespread change to our source code, removing all those little x- sequences, as the new content-types have not been approved by IETF.
Thank you, Brendan!
Some people may remember the old tinderstatus extension, which would show you the status of the SeaMonkey trunk. Myk Melez and I have just updated and released this extension. Now, it monitors 5 tinderbox pages: SeaMonkey, Firefox, Thunderbird, XULRunner and Camino.
I'll probably continue to work on this project; making tinderstatus configurable is my next major goal.
More good news! A company named ManyOne Networks has agreed to bring me in as a contractor to work on Mozilla-based projects. I'm really looking forward to this group. They have a product aimed at education (which I've always enjoyed doing), and a certain gentleman by the name of Charles Manske works there...
Henrik Gemal has reported prematurely that the Mozilla Application Suite spinoff project will be renamed SeaMonkey.
Although this is one name submitted for use, the Mozilla Foundation has not yet confirmed that this name nor any other name is clear of trademark issues. We all remember the Firebird debacle, and would really like to avoid that in the future.
I'm going to quote Robert Kaiser, one of the drivers for this new project:
You might have noticed that there's no official announcement anywhere, there's just an attachment to a bug report (and not even the main rebranding one). Sure, someone of the SeaMonkey Council has attached it, so you can guess where we're going. But as long as there is no announcement by the SeaMonkey Council (and a reworked project page, which we have drafted already) you can't take this naming as official. We don't have a trademark yet, but as you might know, we've already used that name quite some :)Please wait for an announcement and the real rebranding patch before taking it for granted :)
Robert (aka KaiRo) also says:
"as long as noone of the SeaMonkey Council or a mozilla.org-hosted (non-blog, non-wiki) page announces it, it's not official"
