Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 Released
Sponsored links:
Changelog for previous release (Thunderbird 2.0.0.9) | Changelogs for other Thunderbird releases
Released on 26 Feb 08, and this changelog was last updated on 27 Feb 08.
Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 has been released. Release notes are available. This post lists the improvements in Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 over 2.0.0.9. This list encompasses almost every single known fix that went into this release. Do check out the known issues as well.
The Gecko 1.8.1.x branch (Thunderbird 2.0.0.x series) will not include any groundbreaking features that Gecko 1.9 will bring, since it is based on Gecko 1.8. Additionally, in order to synchronize the version numbering with Firefox, 2.0.0.10 & 2.0.0.11 were dropped in favour of 2.0.0.12.
Impact key for security issues listed on the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories webpage:
- Critical: Vulnerability can be used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing.
- High: Vulnerability can be used to gather sensitive data from sites in other windows or inject data or code into those sites, requiring no more than normal browsing actions.
- Moderate: Vulnerabilities that would otherwise be High or Critical except they only work in uncommon non-default configurations or require the user to perform complicated and/or unlikely steps.
- Low: Minor security vulnerabilities such as Denial of Service attacks, minor data leaks, or spoofs. (Undetectable spoofs of SSL indicia would have "High" impact because those are generally used to steal sensitive data intended for other sites.)

I'd like to have your developers look at the rules for distributing mail automatically. Every time I make one, I have to click more than once on the combo box with the folders to which I want mail moved. OK, not a huge deal, but an irritant.
I have many such rules and find they do not all always run, too... a little bigger deal.
I just tried this with the latest update (2.0.0.12), so I believe these are current issues.
Thanks for an otherwise terrific product.

I'd like to be able to search the calendar (Lightning).
Also, I recently replaced my laptop and discovered there is no way to export mail, local folders, addresses, and calendar events so I could import them on my new platform. You can import but not export. I managed to get everything moved, but it required a lot of work.
Finally, I like to have my replies above the quoted message with my signature below my quote and above the quote. This works on replies, but when I forward a message my reply is above the forwarded message (where I want it), but my signature is at the end of the entire message instead of above the forwarded message. This is minor, but a pain.

Feature request #1)
While composing a new message, with Contacts shown in the left pane, there should also be an "Add to Bcc:" button in addition to the ones for To: and Cc:. I thought I'd previously seen an add-on for this feature, but can no longer locate one.
Feature request #2)
I'd like an option to forward messages inline WITHOUT inserting any "quote characters"--solid vertical lines or right angle brackets at the left margin. A choice re: whether to indent quoted text would also be good.
Feature request #3)
I'd really appreciate an intelligent method to strip these same quote characters out of received messages, especially ones with multiple levels of quote markers. One add-on I tried for this didn't quite work as expected/needed. Furthermore, it'd be absolutely BRILLIANT if such quote characters could be stripped out of incoming messages that have also been RE-WRAPPED (quote characters no longer uniform at left margin) by a prior recipient.
FWIW, this was written using paragraphs for easier readability--which I'm not seeing while viewing the preview. As this is my first time to post here, my apologies if it posts as one large paragraph.

And thanks to my browser hiccup, pardon the double post. (Mods please feel free to delete 2nd post. I would if I could.)

You can not easily export the complete Thunderbird setup and data if you migrate to a different machine. It seems to take a lot of work.
Programmatically this should be easy. Unfortunately it is beyond my skill set.
Nice program! Good work people!

Hello All!!
I'm using Portable Thunderbird 2.0.0.9. When I use "reply to all", my email adress is inserted as a destination e-mail. Is it a Bug? Someone had it?

I would like to be able to print my address book in alphebet order

Sorry to be a curmudgeon here, but does anyone have any idea when there will be a fix for the bug that causes HTML email to open painfully slowly unless the Address Book is open?
The bug has long been reported, and discussed, and discussed, and discussed, yet revision after revision comes along, including 2.0.0.12, without its being fixed.
I don't understand why it can't be fixed.

Hi it usually takes 3 to 4 attempts to download my emails: I get connection to [HOST] timed out.
I get this from multiple sources such as POP accounts and Web Mail accounts (using the Web Mail plugin).
If i use outlook or outlook express I do not have this issue. Are the development team aware of this issue?

Still can't import settings from outlook to Thunderbird... and that's why I don't use it. When mozilla fixes that, I'll switch...

I'm assuming that the patch to make it possible to attach files with out-of-locale Japanese filenames (Bug 332110) hasn't been included in this release, since I don't see it listed here.
I guess I'll keep using Outlook...

Would it be possible for someone to fix the bug with the configuration option mail.close_message_window.on_delete? This feature doesn't work when the value is set to true. I have found other users who have patched and rebuilt the source, but I don't have time for that. This is one key usability feature that prevents me from moving over to TB currently? Can someone patch this and check it in for the next build?
Thanks!

Heck, while I'm at it ... has anyone ever addressed the continuing problem of TB being so painfully slow to open a new blank email to compose, or a reply to an email, when it's the first time to do so after launching TB?
Subsequent blanks or replies come up just fine, but, man, those first ones after launch are tedium defined!
What is up with this, and will it ever be fixed?
Thanks,
Frederick

Hey John Lambert and others,
I use both my lappy & desk top and use Micro$oft Synchtoy to synchronise the whole folder where I store my mail on each PC. I changed it to a nicer location than the default. Then no need to export & import. Takes all address book changes, all mail changes, all calendar as well (lightening). Works a treat.

I have a problem with Thunderbird that I can't seem to fix. When emails come in they are hard to read because of the type size. I can increase the text size through 'view' on the toolbar, which is a pain in the ass to have to do. Printing is even worse. A magnifying glass is almost necessary when it prints out, contrary to the increase in text size. There are no other printer problems with other programs, nor does this problem doesn't exist in MS Outlook. Would appreciate any suggestions on this.
