Free IMAP activated by Gmail

I am having a really busy time at school now, being in the midst of starting to consolidate / analyze the results of the survey for my college project (212 complete responses within a week; 38 more before we hit the limit!) and stalling on creating a Thunderbird-themed one due to lack of time (will appreciate help).
I noticed that Gmail just activated their IMAP support, and here are their instructions for getting it to work on Thunderbird 2 (saw it on Slashdot). As it is currently being rolled out to all accounts, I guess some of us will have to wait till it has been completed.
Edit: The survey for my college project has been closed. Thank you all who have responded!

Yes, it does work right but maybe you can help me with this:
When setting up IMAP in Thunderbird 3.0, it has an Inbox and Trash folder...then it has the whole hierarchy for "GMail" which also include things like Trash and All Mail, etc.
My question is, in order to it sync up PERFECTLY between GMail and Thunderbird I need to get rid of the ThunderBird Inbox and Trash so I can leave ONLY the "GMail" hierarchy.
Otherwise, everything I delete goes into the Thunderbird Trash folder and on GMail Web-Based only has a label on it saying [imap]/Trash with the real GMail trash completely empty.
Hopefully this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!

John: I seem to face this problem as well, with the labels and such. My guess is GMail will still be taking in feedback, and hopefully the functionality will be changed over time.

John: Found a workaround here, under the "Set Thunderbird to use Gmail's Trash folder (UPDATE)" section.

Oh my God, GREAT FIND! I cannot thank you enough!
Now any idea about the inbox/all mail thing?

Inbox / all mail are two separate areas on Gmail, and the same for Thunderbird as well. That's my guess.

Yes, while this is true there is no Inbox in the "GMail" hierarchy and like GMail Web-Based says I have 959 unread messages in my Inbox, while in TB it says 1188 with All Mail having 1271.
Or in my other account, GMail Web-Based says I have 813 unread messages in my Inbox, while in TB it says 1127 with All Mail having 1128.
Does any of this make sense? No, and it's extremely hard to keep straight...
