Released on 01 Mar 07, and this changelog was last updated on 07 Apr 07.
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 has been released. Release notes are available. This post lists the improvements in Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 over 1.5.0.9. This list encompasses almost every single known fix that went into this release. Do check out the known issues as well.
The Gecko 1.8.0.x branch (Thunderbird 1.5.0.x series) will only bring stability and security bug fixes. As such, no new features will be added.
Impact key for security issues listed on the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories webpage:
- Critical: Vulnerability can be used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing.
- High: Vulnerability can be used to gather sensitive data from sites in other windows or inject data or code into those sites, requiring no more than normal browsing actions.
- Moderate: Vulnerabilities that would otherwise be High or Critical except they only work in uncommon non-default configurations or require the user to perform complicated and/or unlikely steps.
- Low: Minor security vulnerabilities such as Denial of Service attacks, minor data leaks, or spoofs. (Undetectable spoofs of SSL indicia would have "High" impact because those are generally used to steal sensitive data intended for other sites.)

Is there anyway to control where the Signature gets placed in an email? I can't find it if there is and if there isn't, it would be nice to be able to put it where you want.

I'm not sure why you would want your signature anywhere other than at the bottom of any new blank email you were sending, but if you are concerned with the signature placement when you reply to a message, you can change it as follows.
Tools->Account Settings->Composition & Addressing->Automatically Quote the original message when replying, Then "Start my reply above the..." and place my signature "below my replay (above the qu.."

"Account Settings"
then
"Composition and Addressing"
cheers!

I prefer to have the signature auto-inserted at two lines down from the top of the new blank message, and two lines above the (original message(s)) quote. This way I can type above the signature and recipients can see my reply without having to scroll down past stuff they've already seen (possibly hundreds of lines).
Unfortunately, if you change the from (sender id) details to a different sender identity, even after the options in the C&A configuration window have been set to 'type the reply above the quote and put the signature below the reply'. The replaced signature always appears at the foot of the message after the quote. I consider to be a bug that should be fixed.

Unfortunately for you this bug is one that no programmer anywhere is able to fix. It is caused by the idea in your mind that writing a conversation backwards and repeating every word spoken is _always_ worthwhile.
Think about this for a minute:
Most languages in this world are read from top to bottom.
People you are talking with _already_know_ what has been said earlier.
New people (if wanted) _should_ be able to read the pertinent parts of a conversation without confusion.
Nettequette has always been that responding below the prior message and removing unwanted bits of quote is a good thing, is polite and keeps a message on track.
So why again do you want to write upside down?
It gets really confusing
or in reverse it can

A User,
I don't experience the same signature issue as you.
If I rely to an email with one identity and it's set to put the signature below the quote, it does just that. If I then change the address I'm relying from to one that's set to put it's signature above the quote it does that also.
However the signature from the first identity isn't replaced, it's left there.
I wouldn't take the reply by Haiki to heart too much. Especially given that he started off telling you that a feature many email programs are capable of (including Thunderbird) can't be done.
The old "reply at the top", "reply at the bottom" argument has been going on since the internet began. Nettequette evolves and changes, and the reverse order argument is just personal preference these days. Personally my preference is to open an email directly to the current message. If I need a refresher I can cope with scrolling back in reverse order.
Ever notice when you go to download a file the download lists starts at the current release and works backwards towards the original? I wonder why that is? Have a look to the left of this page. Notice how the archives start at the most recent and work backwards? Anyone here that couldn't navigate back to an earlier archive if the one they were reading included a reference to it, or had we better call the nettequette police. ;-)

I hate updates. Every time I update software something goes wrong, and Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 was no exeption. I'm switching to Outlook.

Merci

I was loving Thiunderbird, and then I downloaded the update. It has not worked since. It will not connect to my email server, and now there are another set of folders called mail.comcast.net above the Local Folders.
I am not an expert, and things like this can be frustrating. Is this an easy fix?
Thanks.

Well, i downloaded the update and everything works okay for me.
Regarding the signature issue---sometimes for certain messages i like the signature above the message. Knowing that it cannot be done automatically i just cut & paste a premade signature into the message at the top.
For me this was an easy fix.

The update worked fine for me too. Regarding signatures, when you create a new mail indirectly, as say by clicking "send link" menu item in Firefox, your signature doesn't appear in the created e-mail. This wouldn't be so bad, but I can't find any way to insert it (as in say the dreaded OE) other than typing it in. Is this a designed in behavior or a bug or am I missing some option? If designed in, can you give the rationale?

(((Tools->Account Settings->Composition & Addressing->Automatically Quote the original message when replying, Then "Start my reply above the..." and place my signature "below my replay (above the qu..")))
This signature placement method works perfectly for REPLIES...but it does not work for FORWARDS. When forwarding, the signature is ALWAYS placed at the bottom. I want to be able to choose the same options for signature placement when FORWARDING.

Did 1.5.0.10 fix the memory bloating and the shutdown problem with large mailboxes? I'm suddenly not having to restart T-bird every couple of hours, and when I do shut it down it does so quickly.
Thanks!

The RSS-reader in Thunderbird desperately needs focus and bug fixes.
When the Firefox 2.0 came out, Thunderbird was almost the only feed reader that was not supported by Firebird's Web Feeds -functionality!
Let's hope that soon two Mozilla development teams will communicate more closely. If I have understood correctly, not even the Thunderbird 2 Beta 2 address this RSS bug (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/releases/2.0b2.html)
Having an integrated e-mail and RSS-reader is a great usability advantage!

Can we please have an option to sort threads by the date of the most recent message of the thread?
The current sorting, by date of the oldest message in the thread, ensures that you don't see new messages to old threads, as they do not pop up to the top (most recent) of the messages.

I love Thunderbird but is there a way to rearrange the accounts in the folder list, as they are just listed chronologically - I have about 10 email accounts for various things and I would like to sort them.

noname - You should try Outlook Express instead, since what you are after is no updates. Alternatively, you could un-check the Thunderbird Option that looks for updates...

Is the Thunderbird email a part of the browser system like the older netscape 7.2 is? Or is it seperate and apart like outlook?
If it is not part of the mozilla browser, it sure would be great to merge the two together like netscape 7.2 does. Thank you.

Regarding the brilliant suggestions to not update or move to Outlook--if you are not going to update your software, you should unplug your computer from the network, so you don't become a liability for the rest of us. Thank you.

I have a new laptop with windows Vista Home Premium, and my current ver of TB is 1.5.0.9.
I keep getting the auto update for 1.5.0.10, and I shut down TB to install the update, but it never installs.
anyone know what is going on?
Thanks,
Rob

I am having a problem with Thunderbird. It seems that I can only reply to 1 email at a time. If I reply to a sender's email, then attempt to read a different email, and reply to it, I am unable to do it. The second reply opens a new window, but the sender's info and original subject line, and email text are missing. I have to close Thunderbird, and restart it, then I can reply to the next email.
Is this a known bug?
Thanks, Joe
