Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1 has been released. Release notes are available. This post lists the new features and improvements in Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1 over 2.0 Alpha 1. This list encompasses almost every single known fix that went into this release. Do check out the known issues as well.

Only 2.0 Beta 1 builds will auto-update to Beta 2 when Beta 2 is released. Also note that only Beta 2 will come with localized builds. The default dictionary is English-only. Non-English dictionaries can now be installed as extensions from addons.mozilla.org.

The Gecko 1.8.x branch (Thunderbird 2.x series) will incorporate improvements based on Gecko 1.8 foundations. No major Gecko 1.9 features will be in these builds.

LDAP queries over SSL are not working in Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1. This will be resolved before Beta 2.

Please note: Anyone other than developers and testers should not download the Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1 release. It is intended for testing purposes only.
