Hi there,
Here's an idea for Thunderbird:
How about an interface adjustment to the mail column (I use the three column layout) like Outlook for Windows where you can view email organized by today, this week, etc.
Thought it would be nice.

Here is another idea: how about the ability to have a different sound (.wav file) play for incoming email messages that are based on specific email addresses (much like Eudora offers). Also, how about a sound when new RSS feeds are ingested? Then TB would totally rock!

Hi Daniel,
Just press 'g' and your inbox will be grouped by day (if your current sorting is by date), or by sender, etc. (you can also reach this using View->Sort by->Grouped Sort)

For 2.0 - I would like a nicer and more extended forms for entering addresses like in M$-Outlook, Evolution or Kontakt. With for instance 3 three or more addresses, a lot of phonenumbers etc. Also an automatic postalcode placer based on country as in M$-Outlook or Kontact should be nice or international use.
For the rest it is a great mailer and Firefox is a great browser.

You don't talk about inline spellchecking ?

Hi,
There needs to be the ability to import thunderbird email. Example:
I go from windows to Linux...I need to be able to import my email from windows thunderbird to Linux thunderbird and back again.

Why can't somone add \FLAGGED filter support for IMAP?
It has, AFAIK, been pointed out serveral times but noone seems to be able to add it...

Hi!
where's the sieve(rfc3028) api and the imap extended alc support (rfc3505)?
(:
I'll open a big bottle of champagner if thunderbird will support this in the future...
greetings,
Stephan

Hi,
I can't use a mouse and find it impossible to reorganise my contacts in the adress book.
Could it be possible to have a contextual menu entry on a contact that says "send to ..." so as to move it to a folder or sub-folder, just as you would for a message.
It would be a great thing to make blind person switch to Thunderbird.
Thanks all.

I would still like to see a post-send filtering option so outgoing mail can be filed automatically in the subfolder to which it belongs.

Sounds all great. Just a question if Thunderbird 1.1 has realtime spelling what about a check of attachments by typed text:

I would just like the custom new mail sound option in OSX to actually work!

The Thunderbird 2.0 Roadmap says that one of the 1.1 goals is "Support forward and reply from message filters." I don;t see this optin in the current 1.1 release; am I missing this, is it coming later, or...?

There is something that would really set Thunderbird apart from other mail clients for me. As a European I often need diacriticals like ë é and more. (Some I cannot even enter here because Firefox interprets them as commands: eg ALT-0246.) This has been a shortcoming throughout the computer industry for decades now. Solutions are around -- if somebody would only make an effort and standardize and implement these. MS-WORD does an excellent job here: Ctrl+: followed by e becomes ë.

Somebody should put the clock right somewhere: I entered my previous comment at 0857 GMT and it shows as June 4, 2005 05:57 PM. I am assuming that it is off by 12 hours.

Stefan: why do you want support for "RFC 3505 (rfc3505) - Electronic Commerce Modeling Language"?
skywalker: thanks for doing this!

Hi!
It would be nice to have an ability to minimize Thunderbird to the system tray. Otherwise there is no advantage of using periodical mail check.
Thanx.

I would love if you could provide a "Switch between HTML/Plain Text" button in the Compose window. It's painful to get into settings everytime I need to send that occassional HTML email...
Posted by: Mikhail Esteves at June 5, 2005 7:19 AM
I would like to be able to preview emails on the server, like Foxmail, i.scribe, etc and delete them without having to download them.
Posted by: Dave C. at June 5, 2005 8:46 AM
@Mikhail: Just switch HTML mail on by default, it will ask you on send if you want to send as html or plain text.
@Rest: This blog post is no request for new features :), the devs won't read the blog comments here.

Also in 1.1a1: it is now possible to customize LDAP attributes for the Addressbook: see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119291 for details.

Hi,
what about a global search in thunderbird finally?
every email-client can grab me all the information from all my accounts - but none helps me find it again, including thunderbird.
thank you,
peter

Yes, different .wav files for each email address would be great. I use a morse .wav generator and from a distance in the house can hear which account has received mail (but this is in PopTray - which I use [with TB closed]). PopTray unfortunately is only for windows but sits in the task bar and can take many accounts and only uses 60k of RAM.
Regards, keep up the great work! Paul.

Thunderbird 1.1 Alpha 1 is excellent! I highly recommend it even to end-users, not just developers.

It would be nice to use a deeper contacts tree structure
to search or filter by items in it
for example:
Sender | is in contacts | Personal - Company - Sales
