Thunderbird 1.0RC1 is out!

Thunderbird 1.0RC1 is now available for download.

Scott MacGregor writes: "I'm excited to announce that our first Thunderbird 1.0 Release Candidate is now available for testing. 1.0RC1 includes lots of bug fixes and improvements for features like saved search folders, the RSS reader, mail migration, and message grouping. The default themes have both been updated with new improved artwork as well."

New features include:

  • Significant theme improvements for all platforms.
  • Migration improvements for Outlook 2003, Eudora and Mozilla Suite users.
  • Fix for a 0.9 regression on Mac OS X when creating folders with non ascii characters.
  • Lots of improvements and bugfixes to Saved Search Folders, Message Grouping, RSS, Multiple Identities and Global Inbox.
  • UI and stability improvements, and a new end-user license agreement.

Why is this not on the Mozilla front page like Firefox1.0RC1 was?

My guess is.... not significant enough to make the front page since it is a (mostly) bugfix release, not even final and Thunderbird is not a core product of the Moz Foundation. (which should be IMHO, in conjunction with Firefox)

Firefox 1.0RC1 wasn't on the Mozilla frontpage either. 1.0PR (or 0.10) was, but 1.0RC1 & 1.0RC2 weren't.
