Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 candidate builds available
We have Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 candidate builds available. You can find them in the following directories:
We will have l10n builds shortly and I will post that link when they are available.
We would like the community to download these builds and take them for a test spin. Things to try out:
(1) Using banking and webmail sites
(2) On Mac visiting lots of sites with Java and Java applets
(3) Installing extensions and themes
(4) General browsing
Please check the current list of Bugzilla bugs before filing any new bugs. Feel free to post any problems or issues you have to this blog. If you crash, please include your Talkback ID. Also please remember to mention any extensions you might have installed if you are having a particular issue, and try installing them or disabling them first to see if that rectifies the issue.

Report from the trenches - Feedback from Friday's Test Day
Report from Friday's Bon Echo Test Day
*New for this Test Day - we used AIM for the first time
**Two testers joined us on AIM to test
Main Focus of Testing:
*Downloading a 1.5.0.x build and installing a set of extensions that were both compatible and incompatible
*Then dowloading the latest Bon Echo nightly to make sure the upgrade path worked well
*Those that finished their Add-Ons testing also did some RSS testing
New bugs filed as a result of the Test Day (there may be additional bugs but these are the ones that I received via email)

Feedback from testers:
"Overall I'm quite impressed with the new extensions user interface. It's a big improvement on 1.5 and is easier to use. "
"Bon Echo is looking really good in my opinion, the in-built spell checking for forms is definitely a feature I noticed and quite liked. The GUI improvements in the Add-ons manager are also much better. The search bar improvement in managing search engines is also very good, definitely a much needed improvement. "
Suggestions Made to the QA team:
*Make announcement of Test Day earlier
We will have another test day soon - stay tuned!

Firefox 2.0b1 Community Test Day - Feature of the week!
In anticipation of the upcoming Firefox 2.0b1 release, we want to have this month's community test day focus on some of the new features/functionality in Firefox 2.0.
The plan for this Friday is to look at the Extension/Theme Manager (now called Add ons in the Bon Echo UI).
Test Day Details
Date: Friday, June 23rd
Time: 10:00 AM PDT - 5 PM PDT
Information about Community Test Day
Jay or I will post specific instructions on what we will test to the Community Test Day Wiki shortly. The plan we are currently considering is to have interested testers create Firefox 1.5 profiles with extensions that work/don't work in 2.0 and then test the upgrade path to the latest Bon Echo nightly.
Robert Strong has done a lot of good work on this area, and it would be great if our community can help us flesh out any problems early in the game. Look forward to seeing all of you in the test channel on Friday!

A Look inside QA/Ways you can help
I know there hasn't been many updates on what we have been working on, so I thought I would provide a quick summary of what is going on in QA and ways our community can help our QA effort.
*Firefox 1.5.0.5 - we are currently working on this release. The Release Team is working on triaging the bugs and getting fixes checked in so we can start our verifications. The Release team meets three times per week and looks at the blocker nominations, approval requests for blockers, approval requests for non-blockers (you can see the list on this page if you are interested in following along. I am also building out a community page which mirrors the one Jay did for 1.5.0.4 that will house all of the community testing information.
*Firefox 2.0 - Each member of the QA team has taken one of the major features of Firefox 2.0 and started creating new test cases for that area as well as updating the existing test cases that are already in Litmus. For example, my assigned areas are RSS and Tabbed Browsing. Our new intern Adam Guthrie is helping me with the Tabbed Browsing area. Our goal is to have a good set of test cases in Litmus before the scheduled ship date for Firefox 2.0b1 (July 6).
How can you help? Here are some great ways to get involved in QA:
1. Check in on Bug Days, held every Tuesday from 12-5 PM PDT in the #qa channel on IRC
2. Participate in our Community Test Days
3. Do some testing on your own in Litmus.
4. Help us think of ways automated testing can help test both Firefox and Thunderbird.

Back To Basic Bug Day
We haven't had much success generating wide interest and participation in Bug Days. Bug Days is a great place to get involved in Mozilla community work. We need to bring in more new participants to help out with our projects. Back to Basics Bug Day is intended for those that have little to no experience with Mozilla and Bugzilla. I'll be in the #qa channel giving guidance and fielding questions about basic bugzilla guidelines, techniques and tricks.
In order to keep the door open for new contributors, Bug Day topic the first Tuesday of every month will be "Back to Basics". Also on any other Tuesday Bug Day, new folk should feel welcome to ask about basic Bugzilla stuff. Hey, come into #qa any day and feel free to ask. :-)
