Firefox RC3 Community Testing Day
We are having a community testing day on Friday. Here is all of the information that you need to know to participate in some fun testing!
Start time: Starting 7 AM PDT - 5 PM PDT

If you don't have an IRC client, here are few clients you can try out:
Chatzilla (you can install this as an extension in Firefox)

Builds
We will be testing the Firefox RC3 build, which was released 11/17/05. Here are links to the various platforms:

If you are using an earlier build (Beta2, RC1 or RC2), feel free to test out our great software update feature to bring yourself up to RC3.
Channel Operators
Channel operators will be available to help with your questions and to assign you test accounts. Channel operators can be identified by the solid green dot next to their name. Throughout the day we will have a different set of channel operators participating, and if a channel operator is away their IRC nickname should reflect that fact.
Testrunner Test Runs
1. There will be 10 test runs for Firefox, on Windows, Mac, and Linux. They will be located at http://testrunner.mozilla.org/test.cgi.
2. Please make sure to choose the correct platform when you start your run.
3. If a test passes, check the radio button that says passed. If it fails, check that radio button, and try to note the bug number of the failure if it has already been logged. Please make sure to check with the channel operator before filing a bug as there will be instances where known bugs exist on certain platforms. Some of these will be called out in the test cases.
4. We are not assigning areas within the test runs to test, so please feel to muck around in any area you like. We encourage you to test areas you don't normally test. And feel free to explore some areas that interest you more fully. After all, it's all about Full Functional Testing.

Firefox 1.5 rc3 seems to lock up on http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/mangle.php doesn;t crash any more but browser hangs closing tab leave firefox un-useable - completely unable to browser with out killing firefox in taskmanager

wfm i have all the latest updates flash 8,java 1.5.0 update 5, real player 10 and quick time 7.0.3 and windows media player 10. i tried those steps.

On further examination, it looks like installing a beta version of Firefox 1.5 over my previous 1.0.7 installation had set the update channel to 'release' rather than 'beta'.
However, it sadly still isn't finding the update :(

Firefox 1.5rc3 handles css designations for base html elements differently from 1.0.x series. It appears that 1.5rc3 requires that base elements be referred to in lower case only.
Example: DIV { color: purple; } won't work, but DIV { color: purple; } will.
Is that intentional? If so, why?

jherring: Both examples work just fine for me. Nothing changed in any of the RCs that should affect that.

Then it's something that happens when firefox is performing xsl transformations.
I just tested it in Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5:
When firefox is transforming xml to xhtml, and html base elements are capitalized in css included files, firefox doesn't apply the css rules. Viewing the page in DOM Inspector shows that only the built-in css rules are being applied to those elements.
When I have the server do the transformation so that firefox receives xhtml, the same capitalized css rules work as they do when firefox is rendering xhtml without transformation.

Have been using Firefox 1.0.7 and am trying new 1.5rc3 . I like it and can't wait for extensions . When I first opened it it was slow . After surfing around a little it got faster and faster . I think you have a hit and will continue to test .

When installing 1.5RC2 in a different location (different folder on the same partition) it overwrote my 1.0.7 install. Uninstalling 1.5RC2 and reinstalling 1.0.7 did not work: 1.0.7 doesn't work anymore. Is this done on purpose?
And the issue with the memory hogging up is still present in RC3 and I would like to see this problem solved before the release of the final version.

Some good feedback; on my Win XP Pro SP2 I have 1.07 default installed. RC01 was installed in a custom test directory. All data was backwards compatible with 1.07 but reinstalling 1.07 with RCx active will not work on the same data directory, I tried that. Subsequent installations of RC2 and RC3 into my test directory worked fine except the known update errors. When I updated my default 1.07 to RC3 that went smooth as well.

Well, certain bugs seem to have been fixed in this latest RC, and I'm happy, but the entry in Add/Remove Programs in WinXP still reads Firefox 1.4.1. I hope this will be fixed before the real 1.5 comes out.

There is a small bug in the update system. If you're in offline mode you will get an error message:
AUS: Update XML File Malformed (200)
and not that you're in offline mode. There's a bug for thunderbird in bugzilla:

I have found that one of the dependence-packages that comes with a Firefox RC install on Debian-linux(Mepis)breakes flash and freezes Firefox.
This is something from the last week, cause I had RC2 installed without a problem, but now after I installed RC3 flash makes FF freeze(for example cnn.com).
Reverting to RC2 doesnt help.
Removing libflashplayer.so "solves" the problem.

a few bugs i found in testday (i was tester11):
a) small issue: when clicking middle button on a menu item, the menu disappers, but their top menu is still marked.
b) medium issue: when clicking in the "go" menu with the middle mouse on the home item, it doesnt do anything (should open home url in a new tab).
c) big issue: after doing #6 in http://testrunner.mozilla.org/test.cgi#2430 when reloading the pdf, it saves it to a file, but when i change the option back to use the adobe plugin, it still wants to save file instead of opening it in-browser.
d) small issue: when going to a middle of a page, click file-> print preview, closing, it goes back to the begining of a page.
e) medium issue: http://www.hixie.ch/tests/adhoc/dom/web-apps/XMLHttpRequest/ (not all worked in rc3).
f) unknown issue:
go to options->content->block popupwindow -> allwoed sites -> just press enter. it adds scheme:http to the list (doesnt explain what it is).
sorry that i dont have time to check/open bugzilla reports for them, but this is the least i could do.

i am also getting "scheme:http" added to the allow block popups and the warn me when web sites try to install extension. This can not be good, as a test i went to a website that installed extensions, clicked on the xpi and it did not warn me, just gave me the button to install. Maybe this is on purpose but it seems a little dangerous to me...

The site i added for the url causes popups in 1.5 final release.
Is there any way to allow popups to domain only, not originating from a page on that domain? Some kind of strict matching?
This doesnt really block popunder ads, and since the site works in the way it opens valid popups (on the same host), so this is a bit frustrating when you start to browse it.

YES! Its 'vsmon' that caused the problem for me!
Firefox stopped finding any websites after it automatically updated, so I found the answer on this page just now!
Even though zone alarm wasnt running, vsmon was in ctrl-alt-del list, I couldnt close it, so I just opened zone alarm, and it said firefox is trying to access the net....I click ok and bingo, I have firefox back with all my settings without a tiresome uninstall and loss of info.

Note that in some cases the authors might not have gotten around to making their extension compatible, so we don't need bugs filed on all of these items. We would just like you to test and provide feedback as to whether the extension is working properly and whether it is compatible

As stated previously there is a problem with the auto update from Beta 2. However, it doesn't state there was a problem and behaves as if its updated. When you check the About dialog and on the titlebar it still claims to be Beta 2.
I needed to download the full installer to install RC1 www.weblocal.com.br
