Help testing Firefox Linux Build - minor change made in external/command line handling
We had to spin another Linux 1.0.7 build to fix an advisory that came out today and we could use your help testing - here is the bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307185
This is a small change so we should focus testing around external/command line handling, since the fix was specific to that area of the code. Otherwise this build should be identical to the last 1.0.7 build that was posted last week. The bug posted above has a test case you can try and there are other variations of shell magic that you can try. For example, putting 'http://www.google.com/search?q=$HOME' in email - when you click on the link it should search for $HOME, not your home directory name.
Link to the build: Linux
Please report any issues in this blog or in Bugzilla if you have an account. Thanks.

Some help testing extension compatability check
We could use some help testing this bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307571
Please feel to comment directly in the bug if you have a Bugzilla account, or in the comments section of this blog. Make sure to test on the most recent branch build instead of the Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 candidate. Thanks.

Firefox Beta 1 broken website reports need your help
We're getting a lot of good data in from our early Beta 1 testers. So far we've got over 2500 broken website reports filed, enough to start analysis of the top problem sites.
If any of you are interested in helping us cull through the list of the top 50 problem sites to make sure that we have bugs on file (either evangelism or code,) that would be extremely helpful. You can start by viewing the top 50 sites (aggregated from the thousands of individual reports) and looking through the comments and problem types of the individual reports to see if there is a common issue worthy of a bug report.
If we already have bugs on file for any of the top 50 sites identified in the reports, please add the new "top50" keyword to flag them (and please add the regression keyword if the sites worked in previous releases.) If you file new bugs based on any of the problem sites in Reporter's top 50 list, please add the top50 keyword as well.
In addition to getting bugs on file, it's important that we get simplified testcases into the bugs. If you see bugs with the top50 keyword that do not have simplified testcases, that would also be a great place to help out.
Thanks for your help.

Need some testing - Thunderbird Beta 1.5 RC1 builds
We are rounding the corner to get the Thunderbird 1.5 release candidate out and we could use your help testing.
Some things to test for (this is from Scott's list of features that landed in Alpha 2:
# Message filters - create message filter actions to automatically forward or reply (with a template) to incoming messages.
# The Junk Mail Controls dialog now has support for server side spam filtering. You can customize Thunderbird to look for Spam Assassin or Spam Pal spam headers when analyzing incoming e-mail and we'll mark the messages as junk as appropriate.
# Improved user interface for building up search criteria in the advanced search dialog, saved search folders dialog, and the filter editor.
# Support for Automatic Update Service like Firefox (disabled by default right now)
# Our RSS component now supports the abililty to export your feed subscriptions to OPLM format.
# On Windows, Thunderbird now registers itself to be a default handler for .eml files (if we are the default mail application).
# The ability to open .eml files in a stand alone message window, allowing you to save / open attachments contained within that .eml file.
# Support for message aging. Automatically deleting messages from folders after they reach a certain age. (Tools / Account Settings / Server / Offline Settings or from the folder properties dialog).
# The search dialog has a new folder picker control that lists all of the folders (including subfolders) as one single menu instead of using submenus for each level of hierarchy. This new control makes it much easier to pick folders to search and we hope to use it in other places in the UI.
# Lots of top crash fixes based on crash data we received from the first alpha.
# Fix several issues with Thunderbird failing to process return receipts for IMAP users.
# Bug fix improvements to the first alpha's new feature for deleting attachments from e-mail.
Important Extension Information:
You may run into issues with our new Extension Compatibility and Update
mechanism. There are simple workarounds for each of the three problems
we're aware of.
* If after you run the Thunderbird 1.5 beta installer, the extension
compatibility and update wizard does not appear, go to the Extension
Manager and manually check for updates.
* If the Extension Compatibility and Update wizard appears but does
not complete, first try to focus some other window and return focus to
the wizard. If that does not correct the problem, hit Cancel and go to
the Extension Manager and manually check for updates.
* If the Extension Compatibility and Update wizard downloads and
installs extension updates but those updates are not applied, open the
Extension Manager and manually check for updates.

Step right up - We have Beta 1 Candidate builds ready for testing
Please note: These builds are the Beta Release candidates only - We haven't actually released 1.5 Beta 1 yet.
Some things to be aware of:
*Many extensions and themes have not yet been made compatible with this release, but over the next several days we expect the extension and theme authors will work toward improving this situation.
Things to look out for while testing:
(1) Logging into webmail sites such as Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail
(2) Visiting bank and financial institution sites
(3) Downloading RSS feeds with multiple tabs open
(4) Branding issues (Say Sayonara to Deer Park as we are back to Firefox branding). There should be no Deer Park branding in these builds.
(5) General usage
Here are links to the builds:
Windows, Mac, Linux
Please post any issues you find that haven't already been addressed in Bugzilla to this blog. thanks.

Firefox search dialog testing - on the trunk
As part of the fix for Bug 235204, a Firefox search dialog was recently landed on the trunk, and could benefit from some testing. The new dialog can be activated by either removing or hiding the search bar and selecting Tools->Web Search (Ctrl+K). The dialog allows you to choose from your installed search engines, and gives you the option of opening the results in a new tab.
If any issues arise in testing this new dialog, please comment here in the blog, providing a build date and any JavaScript console errors (note that you must have thejavascript.options. showInConsole pref set to true in order to see relevant errors in the console).

Getting to know our testers...
It's been a couple of months now since we began this blog, and we have received great feedback through our community testing events. We have also realized that our community is made up of many different types of testers and people with varying levels of experience with browser and email testing.
In order to better plan and coordinate future community events, we need your help. More specifically, we want to learn more about all of you and what you hope to bring to the Mozilla QA Community. In order for us to get to know you better and allow you to introduce yourself to the rest of the community, please add yourself to the Mozilla Testers wiki page (if you don't have a Mozilla wiki account, you'll need to create one). Tell us more about where you live, work, and play...and a little about what you can do to help. I've started it off...so you can use my entry as a guideline. Also be sure to let us know which of the following types of tester you hope to be: Casual, Regular, or Nightly and which OS(s) you use regularly.
From all of your involvment and feedback, we have determined that there are three major types of testers out there that are ready to help:
Casual: Individuals who might stop in for casual testing and may not want to get deep into the functionality of either the browser or email. These individuals are probably not interested in serious testing on an ongoing basis, but still want to check out the latest features and fixes and help out however they can to find bugs through their normal daily browsing routine.
Regular: Individuals who are interested in helping out on a more regular basis when we have major testing events and/or alpha/beta releases. These individuals might consider themselves as Casual testers most of the time, but are ready to step up to help with basic functional tests (BFTs) and new feature tests (NFTs) when the time comes. They also are interested in creating a Bugzilla account and taking the time to familiarize themselves with the bug system. In time we hope that some of them will become Nightly testers.
Nightly: Individuals that download our builds on a daily basis and test them. Most of these individuals understand the difference between branch and trunk builds and may have even helped out with basic functional tests (BFTs) and new feature tests (NFTs). These individuals might be more inclined to want to be involved in testing on an ongoing basis. These individuals likely have Bugzilla accounts and have filed bugs in the system.
I'm sure most of you will be able to identify with one of those groups, and if you're unsure, we suggest you start Casual and see if you can find time to get more involved as a Regular or Nightly tester.
So tell us more about yourselves... we look forward to getting to know all of you.

Some pre-beta weekend testing for our nightly Firefox testers
We are getting ever closer to our Beta 1 candidate, so if you are up for some weekend testing, feel free to download these builds and take them for a test spin.
If you want to test a build that comes out on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, you can always go to the Latest Branch Build directory. If you do so, please make sure to note the date of the build that you are testing.
Things to try out/test:
*Logging into any banking or financial sites
*Logging into Yahoo Mail, GMail, Hotmail accounts
*Installing some extensions, including Adblock
*Download some files
*If you are using the Mac, we have had some reports of issues with the toolbars being greyed out. Need to see if this is a Mac only bug. Bug 306899 is the bug that has been filed to address that issue.
As always, please check Bugzilla before filing any new bugs. Feel free to add any information to the comments of this blog post if you are unsure about whether to file a bug, the QA team can investigate and get a bug on file if necessary.
As always, thanks for your continued help in making Firefox and Thunderbird the best products ever!

Need some help testing this bug
If you have some spare cycles and could test this bug and record your results either in the Bugzilla bug or as a comment to this post, it would be helpful. Looks like we could use some Mac/Linux feedback as well.
