Need to get some eyes on today's builds
We landed some changes over the weekend and want to get some eyes on today's Firefox and Thunderbird Builds. We need you to download these builds and use them. Things you can do while you are testing:
*Keep the JavaScript console open and look for any unusual errors
*Login to webmail sites such as Yahoo, Hotmail, GMail and banking sites that you use
Please post any issues you see to this blog. thanks.
Here are the builds - I will put up the Mac build link when it is available:
Thunderbird: Windows, Mac, Linux

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300491 still crashes Firefox reliably for me anytime a gtk dialog gets fired up. The version in Fedora Rawhide (firefox-1.1-0.2.5.deerpark.alpha2) doesn't show this behaviour. It has issues too but I cannot make it crash by bringing up a gtk dialog.

I have been using today's build and it works on Windows, but I think the orange in two build machines to be resolved.
Posted by: David B. Haun at August 1, 2005 11:22 AM
I was getting a lot of crashes when reading in Gmail e-mail messages and then closing the browser/visiting another site.
Doesn't happen with 20050730 build.
So probably regression from http://mozillanews.org/bugzilla_warning.php3?id=296639
I can't reproduce it on a different machine, though.

The latest Firefox build for the mac has some strange behavior:
1. After logging in to gmail sometimes the gmail logo that belongs in the upper left is in various places on the screen.
2. Two times today I downloaded a file and Firefox quit immediately with no errors or warnings.
Posted by: Kevin Newsome at August 1, 2005 11:49 AM
I still have the issue that appeared a few weeks back where editing text boxes with lots of text (such as wikipedia) and using copy/paste makes arrow keys and copy/paste stop working, until the browser is minimized and restored.
The regression where installing an extension requires clicking on install twice is still present.
The status bar progress text is still not updated across tabs, even clearing the status bar text would be better than leaving "Transfering data from ..." up all day.
The extension update process is still not very user friendly, where users can click Check for updates in the EM and get no dialog with feedback on what the result is.
If I'm behind a firewall that blocks non-standard ports, the update process fails, and the dialog tells me to "get upgrades from http://www.mozilla.org/update/" which is still an URL that gives a 403 error.
Any web site opened from a dialog, such as the above one, or the "get more extensions" and "get more themes" still open another browser window even if all options are set to send everything to tabs instead.
Just a few high-priority bugs which really should be fixed pre beta.

When composing a new message in GMail with forcing new windows to open in tabs, after sending the message, Firefox closes. Normally, the tab with the new message closes. Today's builds close all tabs with no warning.

Not sure if it's to do with this but today's build seems to be very unstable. I rarely crash but today I've had 4 crashes in a little over an hours use. Talkbacks:

I've had a number of crashes such as TB8000708G where the browser has just been idle on a page (especially VBulletin-powered forums) and crashed. Before today's build, I've hardly had any crashes at all for months.
Posted by: Chris Blore at August 1, 2005 12:43 PM
Hmm, I just reverted to Deer Park Alpha 2 and I get similar exceptions on the console, but the page still works. So the exception doesn't seem to be new, but the non-working HTML area and halt to scripting and/or events on the page is.

One file will not download for me Message starting is shown. I have downloaded two files sucessfully today it says at 100% of 2 files Downloaded. I think drivers and the sheriff together should decide on the split window patch.

I was just writing a post saying that I've been getting no end of errors and warnings in GMail and Yahoo Mail and then Deer Park crashed when I opened a site in another tab. I'm even getting errors on Yahoo's home page:

I too have been getting a lot of errors on GMail and Yahoo, especially the Yahoo Geocities site while I attempt to buid a website for a friend. Deer Park crashes constantly as I attempt to use their File Manager.
Will test with August 01 build.

checked my webmail service (o2.pl, Polish e-mail service), everything seems to work ok. then went to my bank account (inteligo.pl) and I got those errors:

Gmail seems to work ok, except some errors in JS console like: Error in parsing value for 'cursor', but I think that's problem with their code.

Anyone that is crashing, can you please make sure to submit talkback so we can gather some data on these crashes? Also, if you have crashed and can summarize your steps to reproduce that would be great. It is also helpful to know if you have a number of extensions/themes installed.
Posted by: marcia at August 1, 2005 3:44 PM
And FYI: For those that are seeing the JS Console errors that mention "Error in parsing value...", just know that those are just CSS parsing errors because the site has invalid CSS (which is not really an issue).

Nevermind websites, I'm getting XUL errors all over the interface. I can't use most of the options dialog.
I used the latest trunk, not the link above, if that makes a difference.

On all Linux trubk nightly builds from 7/30 on, most everything works normally, but crashes when I run the speed test here: http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/benchjs/
However, it ONLY crashes during the second test (bunch of what look like open tabs across the top of the web page, not the tab bar, then it just closes) when I check the following in the tabs section of the options menu.
{} Force :imks that open new windows to open in:
{} the same tab/window as the link
{} a new tab
If I click the radio button next to the first line, it dies, if not I get the pop up windows and the test continues. I even tried it with a new profile no extensions loaded to see if it was just an extension causing it. :(
Also doesn't seem to set of the talkback either.

Since the builds a few weeks ago, if I close the browser before closing the downloads window then the downloads freeze up and the process hangs. I have to manually kill the process or else I can't open deer park again. Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050801 Firefox/1.0+ ID:2005080106 with Launchy, Forecastfox, Adblock Plus, del.ic.ious, Bandwidth Tester, BugMeNot, Favicon Picker, Firesomething, Mouse Gestures, Minimize to Tray, and Chatzilla (all latest versions). The same process hang occurs if I close the main browser window while leaving Chatzilla open.

DeerPark
Hotmail: 'Empty folder contents' pop-up usually auto dismissed when clicking ok.
GMail: Rich text options for composing mail are not working, it appears to disable composition (cursor disappears) when attempting changes with various widget options in the text pane.
Dropping a bookmark from the url bar to a nested folder in the bookmarks toolbar is prevented by the tooltip?
Thunderbird
Asked 4 times if i want Thunderbird as the default mail client at startup.
When trying to 'Manage Subscriptions' for News and Blogs in the account prefs, a
sheet will drop from the top. There is no dialog or exit from this sheet forcing
the user to quit Thunderbird. I filed bug 303030 If someone else can confirm, that would be great.

Hi,
I have similar problem as mentioned by Bo above.
When, I go to one of my banking site http://www.idbibank.com. On, clicking login link you goto a login page. On this, page on entering user id and passwd the current page is closed and new page is opened with account details.
Now, from options->Tabs if you force new windows to open as new tabs and allow popups for this site earlier only the tab used to closed and a new tab was opened but, now the entire window is closed wihtout and warning. And, true to option no new window is opened.
Extremely frustrating!!

I'm having problem with Gmail. After i click reply or compose and when i click inside the message composing box, nothing happens. The cursor doesn't go inside the compose box. It started happening from Saturday or Sundays build and it was there on Monday's build also. It was working till Friday, so I went back to friday's build and it's fine.

> click inside a message composing box, nothing
> happens
That is exactly the same problem behavior that I am describing with "vbulletin" posting --
Posted by: Hank Roberts at August 2, 2005 8:26 AM
Last night's Thunderbird is almost unusable for my Mac OSX -- typing in the text area for email message is offset about an inch from what's on the screen, as is hilighting, and backspacing is a "submarine hunt" problem, impossible to know what's being typed or deleted, lots of fragments left on the right side of the screen after a select-all-delete.
Posted by: Hank Roberts at August 2, 2005 8:46 AM
I can't get Janus.com to load up reliably for the new build. It was always glitchy before (despite the websites promise of being FF compatible), but now it is completely broken.
Posted by: Jambarama at August 2, 2005 9:59 AM
In OSX there are still repaint issues. Easy testcase:
1. View an applet
2. Go back
The screen does not refresh over where the applet used to be and is instead a blank white area.
Also in the windows versions I get lockups routinely when viewing applets. There is no predictable test case yet that I have found but after viewing a few applets and going back, viewing others, etc. sometimes FF will lock up completely. This behavior is not present in IE.

I've been using Deer Park Alpha 2 on Mac and suffering lots of FireContextClick crashes that from bug 299419 were fixed a few days after the Alpha 2 build. So I want to move closer to the bleeding edge :-) Should I download the 2005-08-01-07-trunk build to which Marcia links, or the most recent nightly?
Also, should I start from a clean profile and copy settings over, as some forums.mozillazine.org posts recommend? If so, a link to a definitive guide would be useful.
Thanks!

When 2 Firfox windows are open on my taskbar, in the first open window, whatever i type (a google search, anything) is writen into the search firefox thing (ctrl+f) and opens it automatically. I can desactivate this option "begin finding when you begin typing" and it works great, but I like to have this option on.
In the latest open window it works fine.
