Mac testers - help us test Safari Profile Migration

Mac users will appreciate the new Safari migration feature in the latest versions of Deer Park. This feature allows users to import their bookmarks, cookies, preferences, and history into Firefox directly from Safari. It would be great if we could give this some more testing, so if you have a mac, please go ahead and give this a try:

1. Download this nightly build.
2. Launch Deer Park and choose File->Import.
3. Select Safari.
4. Select the settings you want to import from Safari.
5. Confirm that everything was imported successfully, that no data is missing, and that everything behaves as expected.

If you have any trouble or comments, post them as a comment to this post.

The link to the "latest trunk" directory is wrong (there is a space between / and nightly). The correct link is: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.mac.dmg

methinks that the URL is supposed to be http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.mac.dmg

Seems that a space somehow got put in before the nightly part of the URL.

History and Bookmarks imported fine. No sign of any Cookies and Settings being imported is difficult to tell without some more information.

I get "no mountable filesystems found" when I try to open the dmg after downloading it.

I tried this on a fresh profile, and it worked perfectly! No missing data I can see, and everything is as it should be.

(G4 Powerbook running 10.4.1)

Great feature that worked well, although it missed quite a few cookies. This is shaping up to be a major release!

I have an iBook G4, Mac OS X 10.4.1 (with Safari 2.0 "412") in French language, it worked perfectly! No problems with accents in bookmarks'names (�, �, � etc.). No problems with cookies...

The importation took a long time : I wondered if it was a crash, in fact not.

Import seemed to work -- everything came across just fine.

One thing worth mentioning: whenever I load DP it appears in my toolbar, vanishes, reappears, then loads. Bit odd.

The import appears to have worked fine -- all my bookmarks were imported, and their directory structure from Safari was maintained. Cookies...I assume they were all imported for in Safari they're all listed together while Deer Park groups them under domains. But it appears to have worked fine.

The one glitch I found was with the "Open in Tabs" selector at the bottom of a folder window -- sometimes it appears, sometimes you get a blank white space.

Sorry to be presumptuous, but does this mean that .Mac bookmark syncing could be in the works? This is the *one* thing that keeps me from leaving Safari as my default browser.

Got all my bookmarks and history fine (neat touch that it places the Safari toolbar bookmarks in the right place). Didn't get any of my cookies, though, or at least, none showed up in the list. Lookin' good!

Dunstan: not sure of the reasons behind it, but it has always done that for me when I test with a fresh profile.

Todd: I've noticed the bookmarks menu bug since at least the 6/30 build, I think I saw a bug report for it, though...

Generally the importing worked fine. Not sure which preferences it can or can't import, but it sort of imported the password test.

The webmail system I logged into (a CPanel 9 install) uses the same username and password combination for HTTP Authentication and then a standard HTML login form. In Safari, I only needed to authenticate once (HTTP Authentication) in order for it to save the name and passwork and use it in the HTML form as well. DeerPark failed to bring up the name and password for HTTP Authentication, but brought it up for the HTML form.

Other than that, it seemed to go fine (I realized the cookie test I did failed because the cookie expired on quit, not because it failed to import it...oops).

Excellent feature! This will make transitions a LOT easier for people. I know people who put off switching just because they would lose everything in Safari when they did so, even though they knew they would get more out of Firefox. They ended up switching, but it made for a couple of weeks of "crap, what did I make this password?" and "okay, I wish I had my old bookmarks..."

Hey everyone,

Okay, giving you the results from a G3 500Mhz, 192MB RAM, iBOOK running 10.3.9 on a format and install done a few months ago. Keep the system squeaky clean and she's still good to me. :)

First Load of Deer Park - File, Import, Next, chose all options EXCEPT preferences since it seems not many were sure if that was actually active...so I'm a lower system testing the simple import.

It DID import the bookmarks it seems. However, it placed them all inside the Bookmark Toolbar Folder, leaving the "From Safari" Hierarchy empty and resulting with "none".

Tried the process a second time, completely cleared out the bookmarks file...startup, file, import, safari, same result...

I don't believe, from what I can see in my history file, that it imported history, however, I do clean the cache and clear history upon exit from Safari...for cookies, I believe the import was succesful. Want and will test this solely and get back...
