Firefox 1.0.5 builds - All Platforms are ready for testing

Update

I have updated the links for testing - please use the 7/7/05 builds.

Here are the links to the candidate builds for testing:

Windows Linux
Mac

Here are the key areas to test in this build:

* Turn off JavaScript - make sure behavior is expected
* Open lots of large images
* If you use Thunderbird mail, create new accounts and open attachments
* Right clicking on content in general
* Hosting XPIs
* Launch the browser from external applications and make sure it works, including checking your tab settings

Other things to try:

(1) Logging into Yahoo mail, GMail or any web services (online banking sites, etc)
(2) The Adblock extension, as well as other popular extensions that show up on UMO.

If you find issues, please post them in this blog. Before filing bugs in Bugzilla, try to check to see first if a bug has been filed. There is a link of the main Bugzilla page called "Hot Bugs" which references the most frequently filed bugs.

Comments

The other build (http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-07-06-05-aviary1.0.1/) had middle-click problems, this one doesn't run at all with my machine.

Windows XP SP2, 2005-07-06-12-aviary1.0.1

Posted by: ronj at July 6, 2005 4:07 PM

hopefully Bugzilla Bug 283730 is still fixed in this 1.0.5 test build (ie, it was fixed in the last 1.0.5 test build, which was a relief, and I can't think of any reason it would be different now -- but we should make sure, anyway)

Posted by: Block Sheep at July 6, 2005 4:32 PM

In mail, create new accounts and open attachments

huh? Firefox has mail????

Posted by: Samual Icky at July 6, 2005 6:08 PM

Samual: I should have clarified - you can try this out if you are using Thunderbird. I will fix the post.

Posted by: marcia at July 6, 2005 6:09 PM

In the latest build it still says 1.7.8, instead of 1.7.9.

Posted by: mike at July 6, 2005 6:35 PM

In mail, create new accounts and open attachments

Firefox has "mail"? Or open attachments in web-email (like gMail)

Posted by: Samual Icky at July 6, 2005 6:40 PM

Posted by: Ben Basson at July 6, 2005 6:41 PM

thanks marcia... grr... some how i double posted thanks to a bad cache :( (wasn't in 1.0.5 so no worries)

Posted by: Samual Icky at July 6, 2005 6:42 PM

These recent 1.05 builds have a big flaw;
if you middleclick on a thumbnail-link , it wil fail(windows).
See the comments in the post below.

Posted by: yamal at July 6, 2005 8:48 PM

I'm not sure if this is expected behavior...
My WikiPedia search engine is no longer there when I install and use 1.0.5 (in another directory)

All of my extensions and home page locations remain.

Posted by: TechMason at July 6, 2005 10:39 PM

Can anyone else confirm seeing this bug now:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252412

This is a very visible, and highly annoying problem if it's a true regression.

Posted by: Tim at July 7, 2005 4:06 AM

Can't reproduce bug 299877 on my machine (XP sp2 050301-1519).
Read mail correctly opens Thunderbird.

As for bug 252412 (same machine) my live bookmarks behave perfectly well. Maybe I need further info.

Posted by: viktor at July 7, 2005 6:25 AM

It takes very to connect to a Gmail account the first then it's ok (maybe it's not an issue).

Everything A-OK for yahoo accounts (and some other webmail services as well) as far as i'm concerned.
Ad-block seems to work the same as with the previous version.

Posted by: viktor at July 7, 2005 6:45 AM

Viktor, the Livemarks themselves behave fine. It's the Bookmarks menu that behaves strangely. When you first click on "Bookmarks" (the menu bar item, not the icon if you have it) after launching Firefox, the bookmark list will pop-up and them immediately disappear. Only on subseqeunt clicks in the same session will the bookmark list act as expected.

Posted by: Tim at July 7, 2005 6:57 AM

Thx Tim. I confirm the bug when clicking for the first time on the Bookmarks button in the menu.
As for Gmail I didn't experience the lag the second time around after restarting FF.

Posted by: viktor at July 7, 2005 7:37 AM

I've been testing again bug 252412.
For some reason if you don't click the bookmark button before a while (surfing various sites) everything is ok. Only if you go for the bookmarks straight after FF launch (or if you don't click a scroll bar before) does the intempestive collapse occur.

Posted by: viktor at July 7, 2005 8:31 AM

Anyone else use the windows installer version? This is the build I installed over my 1.0.4 installation on a Windows XP SP2 machine:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-07-07-05-aviary1.0.1/firefox-1.0.5.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050707 Firefox/1.0.5

I unchecked the checkboxes to create a Firefox icon in my "Quick Launch" bar and on my desktop. However, after installation, they were created anyway. Can anyone else confirm this?

Posted by: Dave at July 7, 2005 8:31 AM

I installed the same test version but in another folder (keeping 1.0.4 in a warm place) and unchecked the same boxes and, yes, my 1.0.4 FF shortcuts have been 'updated' to launch 1.0.5 (there even is a 2nd program shortcut in my start menu).

Posted by: viktor at July 7, 2005 9:07 AM

Succesfully logged in to Yahoo! Mail and Gmail. Could not reproduce the "read mail" bug.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050706 Firefox/1.0.5

Posted by: asteko at July 7, 2005 9:10 AM

I clicked on a link in AIM to launch FireFox from another application. The address was http://www.techoutlook.blogsome.com and it took me to the Blogsome.com homepage instead of that site. Bug?

Posted by: David Catterton at July 7, 2005 1:01 PM

When I open up my Ad-Block extensions I get this error:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://adblock/content/settings.xul
Line number 33, column 1:

Posted by: David Catterton at July 7, 2005 1:08 PM

I have all links set to open in a new, focused tab.
Does not work with context-menu "Search web for...",
that is, a new tab with Google results opens but in background.
XP SP2, not using any tab extensions.

I've noticed that when bookmarking sites with favicons/site icons (e.g., mozilla.org, google.com, mozillazine.org), they do not always show up. Experimenting has shown for me that bookmarking a page while it is loading will cause the icon to show up once the page finishes loading, but bookmarking a page after it has finished loading does not use the icon at all in the bookmarks.

I've also noticed something else. After right-clicking a bookmark inside the bookmarks menu or inside a folder/feed, right-clicking on another bookmark closes the menu. I'm not sure if this is a regression or not (i.e., Fx always did that), but it is annoying.

Finally, I've noticed something strange about the way selecting text works. I discovered it on this page. Sometimes, when selecting text, text gets selected that is about an inch or two above my cursor.

Posted by: Grant Wohl at July 7, 2005 7:51 PM

A minor irritating regression: The Windows version of FF 1.0.5 places a shortcut on the desktop, even if this option is de-selected during installation. This was fixed in 1.0.4.

Posted by: Bill Walker at July 7, 2005 8:39 PM

Just put this into html and load with 1.0.X FF - it will crash... THIS ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO!!! WHY IT WASN'T FIXED YET????

[html]

[iframe id="pocframe" name="pocframe" src="about:blank"][/iframe]
[script type="text/javascript"]window.frames.pocframe.print();[/script]
[/body]
[/html]

I confirm this bug from NIck , by pasting the given code as HTML and loading in Firefox 1.0.4, It does crash.

Even if there is something wrong with the code, Firefox shouldnt crash. A webmaster with malicious intent may use it on a page causing me to lose all the tabs I have open etc.
If its not a bug, its at least a vulnerability.
Bad, bad one.

Posted by: Nash at July 8, 2005 12:50 AM

Well, if you really want to know, Firefox does not log in on Yahoo (automatically). It never has and still does not. The password manager does not even save the user ID and password as they simply do not appear to be recognized by Firefox. If I fail to log out of Yahoo and later return to it apparently the cookies will recognize it as part of the same session or something...I don't really know.

The password manager still does not work properly with a number of other web sites. It will store the URL and must save the password somehow or other (because Firefox will handle the automated login, but the Password Manager never will display the password for some sites.

After Firefox has been open for some (extended) period of time it simply becomes unresponsive. I am unable to click on the URL window and enter a new web site's URL. I am able to click on bookmarks and go to those web sites. Other features just get so unresponsive that I have to close and relaunch Firefox thereby losing the tabs that were open. After launching Firefox will behave normally for some period of time.

This has occurred with Firefox 1.0.5, 20050707 for OS X, and earlier builds. Present OS is 10.3.9, but the problems existed with earlier releases of 10.3.x as well.

I am sure that there are others, but these are the ones that come immediately to mind.

Crash! 1.0.5, Mac OSX version of July 7th.
Opened /Tools/Extensions to check why Adblock wasn't working:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://adblock/content/settings.xul
Line Number 33, Column 1:

^
-----------------------------------------------;

FF failed to quit, and had to be Force Quit.

Flash scroll bug (fixed in deerpark alpa):

If you got a html Website including a Flash movie, bigger (for examle higher than your Screensize) and you have to scroll down, the whole Links cant be clicked because the active area of a button is still on the same position as it was before you scrolled.

The bug only appears if the whole site is a Flash movie. Flash Elements on html or php are working without problems.

Tested with: MAC OSX 10.2/10.3 and Win XP
