Firefox 1.0.5 test builds available

We expect a Firefox 1.0.5 release in the not too distant future and we'd appreciate any help you all can offer by downloading and testing out these new bits. The changes that need the most testing coverage are in how the UI widgetry works.

Our preliminary testing doesn't turn up any issues, but patches similar to the ones we've recently taken in the 1.0.5 development builds have created some small bugs in out of the way places in the UI so please poke around and let us know if you find anything not working as it did in previous 1.0.x builds.

When installing, I did not select the "Place a shortcut in my Start Menu" option. However, I got an empty folder named "Mozilla Firefox."

Can someone tell me the difference between Firefox vs Mozilla as the stand alone program. What I mean is if both are as secure or Firefox is the way to go.

Why the 1.0.5 release? Are there so many urgent security holes/nagging bugs that can't wait a month until Deer Park is finished?

Just started playing with this a couple of hours ago. Haven't encountered anything unfriendly so far. All my extensions that worked in 1.0.4 seem to be working just as well with this one. No crashes yet.

Something went wrong with Tbird AND Firefox. Should I download this version? I deleted the others, to the best of my ability.

When using the Java applications through 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 the browser closes down the first time. Second time is fine...

Just attempting to answer some of the comments here as another reader - questions like this would be better asked in the MozillaZine forums really though...

Ken: The Suite and Firefox are different products - Firefox is now the primary product that the Foundation is pushing, but they are doing security updates to Mozilla 1.7 as well, so you'll get the security issues fixed either way. Mozilla has more detailed security options you can tweak if that's what you're looking for, but Firefox has some more anti-phishing stuff. It's a question of what you're looking for - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Intro_:_Summary has more info.

Rishi: creating the empty folder isn't a 1.0.5 thing particularly, it's a bug that's been around for a while - bug 245392.

Marbleheadman: There are a number of security bugs to fix, at least a couple of which are urgent. And Deer Park final is more than a month away, even by the most optimistic schedule.

All 56 extensions I use work with v1.0.4 Milestone and SweetLou Daily Aviary builds.

Using the 20050621 v1.0.5 build all 56 extensions I use worked fine.

Using the 20050622 v1.0.5 build I found 3 extensions no longer work. Gmail Notifier, Forecastfox, and Download Manager Tweak.

The RSS links in the toolbar don't work too good.

When I click on "Latest Headlines" I get http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html

Insead of a dropdown menu for the headlines.

The same in other RSS links too (err, same result, differnt web page obviously).

Back using Deer Park again

The brief try with 1.0.5 didn't mangle my profile.

The 1.0.5 release was gluelike slow, compared to this Deer Park.

I've been camping for more than a week, so will have to hunt out what's the current release of either Deer Park or 1.0.5 before trying to say anything useful.

OSX 10.3.9, Powerbook G3.

Have not seen any updates on FF v1.0.5 so is it still being patched or what is going on?

You would think there would be some feedback after a week.
