Announcing BFT QA Day - Tuesday at 10 AM PDT
As we approach the Firefox 1.1 release, we need your help with our basic functional testing. We've created a suite of tests and set up a tool where the community can record testing results, and on Tuesday June 28 at 10 AM PDT we're asking you all to join us on IRC to help us run through these functional tests.
Here are the functional areas we will be testing on Tuesday:
Installation, Migration, Menu Bar, Help, Page Controls, Toolbar Customization, Location Bar and Autocomplete, Search, Printing, Tabbed Browsing, Options (Preferences), Popup and annoyance blocking, Find in Page, Bookmarks, History, Downloading, Extensions, Theme Manager, JavaScript Console, DOM Inspector, Page Info, Password Manager, Form Manager, Cookies, Top Sites, View Source, Software Update, Security and Certs, Import, Plug Ins, Security, Uninstall
If you've got an interest in helping us to ensure that Firefox 1.1 releases (alpha 2, beta, and final) are of the highest possible quality, please Join us on Tuesday morning. Here's how!
1. Login to irc.mozilla.org server
2. Join #bft channel
3. Once you join the channel, /msg marcia, tracy, or zach to get yourself added as a test suite user.
4. Please try to review the list of functional testing areas beforehand <http://testrunner.mozilla.org/test.cgi?run_id=1319>. Once in the channel, post a message to Tracy letting him know which areas you are interested in testing. If they are available, he will let you know, otherwise he will suggest another area. You will receive a link which will allow you to start the testing in your assigned area.
5. We'll point you to the build that needs testing (we all want to be on the same build.)
6. If you complete your area and want to continue in another area, let Tracy or Marcia know and they'll let you know where you're most needed.
7. When you've finished a testing area, send an email to marcia@mozilla.org. She will be looking over the results of your testing and will follow up with you regarding sending you a small reward for helping out.

No more testing on mac os x 10.1
We've made the cut and 10.1 didn't make it. Going forward, we will no longer be testing Firefox and Thunderbird on Mac OS X 10.1. Beyond just that, the hacks that were keeping Firefox working on that older platform have been removed so Firefox and Thunderbird will no longer run at all on 10.1.
This will simplify our testing matrix considerably and will help us ensure higher quality for the other versions of OS X.
We appreciate the help that those of you still on 10.1 have been contributing and we encourage you all to stay up to date with Firefox and Thunderbird 1.0.x releases until you make that leap to a newer. (I believe that most 10.1 machines can easily support 10.2. I've been multi-booting my old G4 450 powermac with 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and now 10.4 without any problems - though adding a bit more RAM seemed very good for 10.4 performance.)

Something got scrambled in the config here at the Mozilla Quality blog and our comments were requiring moderation. I think I've fixed that so you all should be free to comment now. We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the early blunder in closing off comments.

Report from the QA Summit
Asa thought it would be interesting to post a few comments concerning the QA summit we had today. Here are some of the areas that were discussed:
1.1 Release
We discussed the plan for testing of the Firefox 1.1 release. Part of the discussion centered around the best way to focus our testing effort using our current set of tools, the Basic Functional Tests. One strategy that was discussed was to make a concerted effort to harvest as many test cases as we can and get them added to our testing tool. To that end, I will be putting out a post soon requesting submission of test cases so that we can build these into our current test suite.
Another portion of the discussion centered around getting the testing community more involved in using our Testrunner tool. The plan next week is to have a "Bug Day" where we will get community testers involved in using the testing suite. Tracy Walker and I plan to break up the Basic Functional tests into smaller chunks (right now it is one large run) and then let testers come in and test various parts of the browser functionality. We will be working on this over the next few days and there should be a post up soon with details of the Bug Day next week.
Asa probably has a few other comments to add, but I thought I would put this out there so everyone who is interested in testing could get an idea of things coming down the pike.

Firefox 1.0.5 test builds available
We expect a Firefox 1.0.5 release in the not too distant future and we'd appreciate any help you all can offer by downloading and testing out these new bits. The changes that need the most testing coverage are in how the UI widgetry works.
Our preliminary testing doesn't turn up any issues, but patches similar to the ones we've recently taken in the 1.0.5 development builds have created some small bugs in out of the way places in the UI so please poke around and let us know if you find anything not working as it did in previous 1.0.x builds.

Welcome to Mozilla Quality
Welcome to our new blog, Mozilla Quality. This is a group blog edited by Asa, Jay, Marcia, and Tracy.
We are only a small piece of the Mozilla quality effort and we intend this blog to grow to become a lot more than just an announcements page. If you're interested in the goings on of the Mozilla quality assurance and testing community, join us here.
We're looking forward to the discussion.
