Return To Wow

As a child, I watched the space shuttle Columbia enter orbit on a 13 inch, black and white television. I remember my dad waking me up at oh-dark-thirty many times to watch the launches. It changed my life. Even then, there were no words to describe the pictures of man going into space. To watch Return To Flight on DiscoveryHD brings tears to my eyes. Night and day doesn't even begin to explain the difference.

I ship software, from time to time. Maybe, if I'm really lucky, two hundred thousand people will be affected by my work. If I do something wrong, nobody dies; not even someone's grandmother, though we like to use that as our cut-off. It's nothing compared to protecting the lives of seven astronauts. It's a humbling experience.

NASA needs our support, our confidence, and our funding.
