I'm a little confused by the reactions from the Mac community about Opera's little vent of frustration towards Apple. The general consensus is that they're a bunch of whiners who took their ball and went home because Apple did it better. However, a little over a week ago I said basically the same thing and got an outpouring of affection. Does nobody else notice the hypocricy?

Opera has every right to be really pissed off. Apple walked right into their market and (with much fanfare) gutted it. They did the same thing to Chimera. Am I bitter? Youbetcha. I think what makes me more bitter is that Apple has done this before to developers and I've seen the whole "bundling = victory" scenario play out from my extended stay at Netscape. Been there, done that. Wrote the screenplay. Saw the movie.

I think that's what prompted my childish whining last week, but at the same time, I think it gives me a little bit of perspective that the Opera guys are lacking. I've been beaten down before and it's old hat now. Losing a browser war is just another day at the office for me. I'm still working on Chimera, but I completely understand their desire to just go home.
