NOBODY can say, even with the price or the ads, that Opera is as bad as IE. This comparison is ridiculous, at least based on the numerical ratings.

The article really sucks.
What is a Deepnet explorer? Is it a real browser or just another wrapper for IE engine with built-in P2P warez downloader. Why not review Avant or Maxthon then?
The article says nothing about webstandards support of the browsers and all the features (mail, chat, extensions - not plug-ins and so on) they have.
Very weak review.

I know the error was in the original article, but given all the problems with people mis-naming Firefox, you should at least do your part to get names right and not repeat the error (especially since Hyatt clarified things nearly a year ago) :-)

Netscape 8 takes the best of both worlds. It runs both IE and Mozilla's search engines, should sites you want to visit render properly only with IE.

I'll guarantee you if they'd put Opera in first place a link or quote would have shown up on Opera's site, if IE had made it someone at Microsoft would have linked to it, etc.

That's what people do with positive reviews, whether the reviews have any merit or not.

I mean, is Asa's referring to this "reivew" not a sure sign of his love of flamebaiting?! Sure it's his blog, but it's still flamebaiting! He didn't just post how Firefox got first, no no.. That would have been too neutral! He goes out of his way to point out that Opera was (ludicrously) tied with IE (worst browser ever) and Deepnet (WTF?!)..

Does he not see that the review is biased, or at least uninformed? If so, why does he even post about it, other than to create tension? Does he honestly believe HIMSELF that Opera is on the same level as IE? If not, why does he not clarify that? He goes so far as to point out the other browser's rankings in the reivew, being tied with IE and Deepnet (shit browsers), so don't tell me "the post was about FIREFOX, not OPERA!"

If all of you FF users out there are so tired of Opera users standing up for Opera on this blog, why don't you open your mouths about this? Why are you all so silent now? Shadowy Opera insults like this are the cause of these debates that you supposedly despise so much, and you all know it as much as I do. Asa is not stupid, he reads the comments here, and he knows what reaction he will get from Opera fans when he posts this nonsense. So if he ISN'T out to create the very responses you see here so often, would he not take the time to write one more bit and clarify some of these questionable posts? If he sees how upset and annoyed the FF fanbase that participate here become when Opera users flock to defend their favorite browser (and if he cared), shouldn't he attempt to clarify these things, for YOUR sake?

don't get me wrong, i'm an opera user myself, but i'm tired of gettin angry evry time a biased review of opera is published. i already love opera, nothing is going to change it. if people never get around to using opera, it's their loss not mine.

I've been using Firefox (then Firebird) as my default browser since 0.8 and it has done wonders for my productivity.
Having said that I really don't see the point of blogging about something as lousy as this "review" is. CNET is getting worse and worse and spreding their lousiness doesn't really serve any purpose...or am I mistaken?

IMO, you are not mistaken at all. You are exactly right.

The review is very fair for Firefox and Safari, but definately something fishy with scoring Opera and IE the same. I'm sorry, but IE is an outdated joke. Just because it has a huge market share, doesn't mean it deserves a decent score.
