Erm, the windows build doesnt load up at all so I had to revert back. :/
Posted by M1th at February 22, 2005 12:42 PMI haven't crashed 1.0.1, so I don't know if this is still the case, but as of the 20050221 build, talkback sucks. I'm using the linux tgz version and talkback consists of two small dialogs that don't really give you any information. There are several dropdown menus, but none of the settings seem to affect anything. Worst of all, I have never been able to close them. I always have to bring up a terminal windows and manually kill the talkback process. Is this a known regression?
Posted by CFlakes at February 22, 2005 12:50 PMNo way to test the update by changing my RDF location to some new temporary location or do you trust that already? :)

It's installed and looking good. Can you give us just the slightest hint about what we should be looking for and testing for? I've gone through my usual selection of sites and have not seen any problems yet. I've still got the 20050222 trunk build installed but using a separate profile.
I don't remember gmail.google.com being untrusted in the 1.0 version either.

The odd thing is that if I click on the icon to see the details, the Page Info tells me that the web site has been verified and that everything's kosher. Regression?

Posted by CFlakes at February 22, 2005 1:44 PMHad little bit of problems in change from 20050214 trunk to 1.0.1 pr
The profile locked up and had quite a problem in getting firefox to start. i had to create new profile to start firefox. Now everything seems fine.
I've been doin' a lot of testing on those latest Aviary builds and think they are pretty stable. Everything looks OK with the last (20050222) release. Anything specific we should look for?
Posted by Fabfire at February 22, 2005 2:21 PMThe following areas were affected by security fixes: IDN, downloading, the lock icon in the status bar and address bar, autocomplete, XPI installation, the ways web applications can open and manipulate windows. If you want, you can concentrate testing on those areas. You might also want to test installing over Firefox 1.0 or a nightly build.
Posted by Jesse Ruderman at February 22, 2005 2:28 PMCFlakes, I just filed this bug for your issue. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283226 Good catch! We'll be looking into it to see if this is a regression or a fix :-)
Jesse, thanks for the list. That's a great place to look everyone.

Posted by Asa Dotzler at February 22, 2005 2:55 PMLatest 1.0.1 nightly, new profile (all previous profiles wiped). Installed some extensions from my local hard disk, and then did the tool/extensions/get more extensions thing. Browsed down through latest extensions, then tried to install "Flat Bookmark Editing" and it told me that addons.update.mozilla.org was not authorised to install software from. Errrrm, missing items in the internal whitelist?
Posted by Phil Randal at February 22, 2005 3:11 PMInstalling over a nightly is a no-go. Tried that at least four times. Old profiles, new profiles, zip installs, exe insatalls, you name it... A whole bunch of weird things happen. FF refuses to start, or start and nothing works - you can click on anything... the program just "freezes"... Also, the update bug popped up endlessly, and this had never happened before here with any of the trunk builds. To get the Aviary 1.01 working I had to uninstall FF, then re-install the Aviary 1.01. Couldn't discover why this happens, though.
A fresh (exe) install works flawlessly, except for a little thingy: when I install the MiniT(20050216)Extension on the Aviary 1.01, it doesn't work... It always did whith the Trunk builds.
It happens that one has to digit about:config in your address bar and go find "browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs", and toggle this setting to "true"; BEFORE installing the MiniT extension. Couldn't this come enabled by default in the 1.01 Final Release?
I'll try installing over a FF 1.0 install. I will stop testing the Trunk versions for now and concentrate on the 1.01, until the release (I believe this is the priority, now, isn't it?). After that, back to the Trunk. Jeeez, this stuff is becoming addictive...
Sometimes a page loads very slowly and stalls at loading some graphic. Stopping and refreshing generally work things out. I browsed uninterrupdetly with Firefox today for 6 hours. Downloads, visiting pages with heavy graphics, etc. I only have the MiniT extension and Flash 7.0 plugin installed, no themes. Running on Win2K Pro (two processors version).

Posted by Fred at February 22, 2005 3:26 PMFabfire, and others, you CANNOT install an Aviary build overtop of a nightly trunk build. This has always been the case, and to my knowledge always will be the case. It's basically the case for all software, anywhere.
Simple rule of thumb: if version of software to be installed is less than the current version already installed (ie - trying to install 1.0.1 overtop of 1.1)... it ain't happening.
Posted by Tim at February 22, 2005 3:37 PM

I also have NOIA 2.81 Theme installed with no problem.
Overall --- so far, so good, with the exception of SpoofStick bein a lil' nasty on the install.

Posted by Jesse Ruderman at February 23, 2005 12:01 AMHello,
Sorry for my english...:-/
Like Fabfire (new profile / fresh install) FF freezees randomely or refuses to start. I have some timeout.
I can't use the URLbar with "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050222 Firefox/1.0.1" !
Just hit CTRL+L, enter any address, hit 'enter', and it crashes !! I can't use it; I must uninstall it.
Sorry. :(
Oops, it looks like my sequence wasn't quite right, Asa. I had installed a few extensions from mozdev.org first before installing anything from addons.update.mozilla.org. I've had this happen twice now when testing with new profiles:
# Permission File
# This is a generated file! Do not edit.
host install 1 addons.update.mozilla.org
host install 1 adblock.mozdev.org
host install 1 moonwolf.mozdev.org
host install 1 forecastfox.mozdev.org
host install 1 flagfox.mozdev.org
Build looks robust to me. I didn't encounter any bug, crash or regression while browsing through all my bookmarked websites.
No problem with the extensions previously installed (Adblock v5 d2, Web Developer 0.9.3, UA Switcher 0.6).
Using self-extracted tar.gz linux build
Great work.
Posted by Ced at February 23, 2005 6:32 AMSeems to be slower than 1.0,tested with
http://scragz.com/tech/mozilla/test-rendering-time.php
I did this rendering benchmark too and I actually get the opposite result: 1.0.1 is faster than 1.0 (on my dog slow computer, with 1.0 it took on average 21sec but only 17.5sec with the 1.0.1 build).
My 1.0 build is from Debian unstable and is patched by the maintainers, so the results I get may not be accurate in this regard.
Posted by Ced at February 23, 2005 8:47 AMOK, I've just downloaded the last Aviary 1.01 (20050223). Any significant changes from the previous nightly, that you guys would like us to know about?
Up to now everything looks pretty fine here. Installing over the FF 1.0 is a go. The latest Aviary 20050223 1.01 seems pretty stable. I noticed that the multiple secure/insecure dialog popping up stopped. Was it fixed in this version, or am I lucky today?

Posted by Asa Dotzler at February 23, 2005 2:09 PMAHHH! :)) Thanks a LOT, Asa! Tested downloading heavily today - I have a fast ADSL connection, so, not a big deal. Not a single failure. Small, medium or big ones, all OK - both using FF download manager (which seems faster in this last build) and GetRight 5.2c and the latest 5.2d (released today) version - no plugins, just plain right-click->"Copy Link Location"->Download. Although I am a "minimalist" user (only one extension, no themes), I am a heavy user, today I used the last Aviary build for 7:30 hs non-stop. And running Photoshop 8.0, Dreamweaver, HomeSite+, and other software at the same time... I also noticed that the last 1.0.1 build seems to release more memory after I close some tabs, but memory usage is still very high, compared to Opera and IE. But I've never seen it go over 64 MB, today. It also seems not to affect the use of other programs, at least on my system... So, I don't care much about it, but I am curious why FF uses so much memory...
Seems to me that we've got a pretty stable 1.0.1 PR here. You guys are doing a tremendous job out there.

Posted by Brian at February 23, 2005 4:30 PMEverything is working fine for me so far on my WinXP SP2 box, but I did run across a couple of minor items.
During a custom install, the option to place a Firefox icon on the desktop seems to be ignored. If you uncheck that option, you still get a shortcut on the desktop.
Isn't 1.01 supposed to disable IDN support by default? I noticed that network.enableIDN is still set "true" in my configuration. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I didn't, strictly speaking, upgrade over 1.0. I uninstalled 1.0 and then installed 1.01, but retained my existing profile.

Uhhhh just a guess but looks almost like it is trying to print when i use the google toolbar. (i don't have a printer on that box}
Jane ...
basic install addblock & littlefox skin.cleared deleted cache saved history / clean install same thing died when typing anything in the google.
krane is correct, the url with only www.google renders the page but does not place the com at the end. Spoofstick however picks this up correctly.
This may be a security issue that could be exploited.
P.S. 1.0.1 is fast as hell...rendered the mozilla page in 2.59secs!!!
WOW
Stable so far with numerous downloads and surfing.
Keep up the great work.
Posted by eric at February 24, 2005 10:47 PMJane: I notice you've got an IME running. Is that on purpose? Are you running a localized build or OS?
I ask because we're seeing a lot of autocomplete crashes, and an earlier crash was fixed nearby that was triggered by the presence of an IME. If it's not being run on purpose maybe more people are using an IME than we know.
Posted by Dan Veditz at February 25, 2005 2:42 AMwin 2003 enterprise, irc chat server, ftp, average running processes between 40-120, 5 other linked boxes need the language packs for a few japanese channels running & translations.
IME = language pack, ms office, also xp plus pack fairly common components around my house. I'm thinking it relates to what Krane mentioned & my setup responds with the crash. Why it looks for a printer when it's disabled in bios/non exsistant is anyone's guess.I have since replaced it with 1.0+ and walla' all better. Next time i will make one of the coders an user account so they can log on & live it in person that would be the best way:)
