AFAIK Nokia has standardized desktop OS to be Win2000 so it's no wonder they are seriously thinking about switching even after Microsoft's latest announcement.

Does Firefox have monitoring hooks built in? Many companies use application/ performance monitoring tools that hook into IE via the Connect, Disconnect, BeforeNavigate2, DocumentComplete, DownloadBegin, and DownloadComplete callback methods (among others) that are part of the IE browser object. I work at a company that supplies one of these hooks in the form of a Browser Helper Object, and while I'd love to support Firefox/ Netscape in a similar manner (big supporter :)), I have not found any documentation on how to monitor these things. Is this currently possible in mozilla-derived browsers?

According to the computersweden.idg.se story they've already rolled out: "Today 55000 Nokia employees use Firefox".

They attribute this quote to Christian Lindholm (Nokia UI guru, responsible for series 60 UI at least): "We are very pleased. It has worked impressively well and swapping the browser went quickly."

As a native swedish speaker I can confirm that Jussis translation is correct.

http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/40785.html states that:

Reports that Nokia replaced 55,000 desktops running Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser in favor of Mozilla's Firefox at its Swedish operations are bogus, according to the company. Nokia spokesperson Chantal Boeckman told LinuxInsider that "the IDG reporter got the information wrong. We have contacted the reporter to correct the situation."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Isn't Nokia the main funder of the Minimo project? Though I haven't heard anything about a Minimo port for Symbian. Opera's already done it.

Hey, Asa, "it sounds like" the Nokia story is a hoax (see http://www.theregister.com/2005/02/23/nokia_denies_firefox , see what Limulus said). We know you always take care to append those nice little "update:" bits to your blog posts, so why don't you? "update : uh, sorry folks, uh, we WISH, but, uh, well, CS and digi.no are full of shit!".

It seems that you need a recount and take 55.000 off again ;)

Oh, and I'm *not* refering to the download number, just to be on the save side :-)
