Hi Chris,

I understand your pain now.

You became exposed to the internet at a young age, while you were brewing in innocence and naive world view.

During this period, you witnessed Netscape become slaughtered by the cororate behemoth, Microsoft, and perhaps even, became befriended by a leftist professor who made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside (For that matter, your father could simply be nuts, too.)

As mozilla.org rolled out, your heart became attached to their cause, and you looked upon this as an opportunity to open Mozillazine, in what would mark the beginning of a new era of international human love.

The events over the past few years, along with the policies of President Bush, have exposed your community love nest for what it really is. Not Mozillazine - your source for human love and compassion, but rather, Mozillazine - The International Bum Network.

If I were you, I would hate Bush, too, I suppose.

C'mon - you can't let it go at just that! That's as half-assed a troll as I've seen.

You can do better. I want to be upbraided by *the best*, and, well, this just didn't cut it. Yeah, you got the little jibe at the family, and you hit the obligatory bleeding-heart-liberal talking point, but where's Clinton's penis in your musings? Isn't it to blame?

Or Hitlary?

It must have required a mammoth restraint to keep from invoking these heirs to the sulphurous realm.

And damn, you didn't even touch on the Communist symbolism behind Mozilla's original logo.

Shamefully half-assed. No gold Oxycontin from Rush to pin on your lapel!

Thanks, Chris. Reminds we of why I started to read you. The question is, are we polarized beyond repair now? Is it possible to heal the rift, as big as it's grown, tended so carefully for 35 years by the constant inflammation of the extreme right's rhetoric? How long can you go on calling half the population traitors, deserters, cowards, and spineless bleeding-hearts, before the anger produced becomes impossible to assuage?
The fact is, the philosophy of the extreme right is based on greed, selfishness, and head-up-the-ass self-regard, mixed with a heavy dose of xenophobic intolerance. Their worldview is full of fear and suspicion, pessimistic about the nature of humanity and completely lacking in trust. The hypocrisy of these people calling themselves "Christian" while trashing every value that religion stands for is only the most obvious of their newspeak talents. The Bush admin's actions have been only the most perfect expression so far of this cynical, get-back-jack-i've-got-mine attitude.
George Will pushes us further into irreconcilable camps with his idyll on Michael Barone's new book "Hard America, Soft America", here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A11265-2004May8.html
where he extols the virtues of callousness and disdains humaitarianism, which he equates with the Red States and Blue States respectively. Somehow it's good to withhold succor from those in need, while shoving your boot into the face of anyone standing between you and a profit margin.
I'm glad I'm a liberal.

Zogby was on TV last night talking about the great political divide to explain why Bush hasn't lost more, and Kerry hasn't gained more. Essentially there are about 45% of the people in America who could be beaten up by Bush and they would smile as it was happening and pull the lever for him in November. They don't give a damn what he does, they're going to vote for him. To do so, as you said, they really have to forsake any Christian ideals they had.

With 45% of the population willing to behave like this, what hope do we really have that that last 10% will have any better sense?
