That photo is just awful.

To me the most eye-opening picture to emerge though is the wide shot of a corridor with soldier-jailers milling around, talking, walking. Broad daylight, middle of the work day. And three naked Iraqi prisoners tightly bound together on the floor with two jackasses standing over them taking pictures, and the other soliders in the corridor not even noticing.

If you look at that photo you realize that this posing and photographing was diversionary fun for these so-called soldiers. They are doing this stuff as easily and mindlessly as I can pick up a couple of paperclips from my desk and string them together to occupy myself.

In other words, that picture shows with absolutely zero doubt that these jailers think of those prisoners as sub-human, and there for their amusement. And that they had no fear of anyone coming in and stopping them.

Sick.

I agree 100%. They participated in this villainy willfully and gleefully, passing the photos around their regiment like trophies. They deserve much more than a pathetic "reprimand". It displays the worst of humanity, the ability to objectify others as sub-human.

And given that there are ongoing investigations of wrongful deaths in the prisons, and given that the instructions to perpetrate such abuse obviously came from above, unpleasant associations are bound to start springing to mind. The question is, how will America respond?
