With more than 500 votes and lots of work done on it, I'm glad it has been reconsidered.
I'm curious about the off-by-default, though. Is that some sort of compromise? "We don't want it, but since everyone else does, we'll make them build it themselves."
Posted by alanjstr at August 14, 2003 5:07 AMThe odd thing is, putting MNG back in (and on by default) would actually make the footpring SMALLER! All the current animations in firebird are animated GIFs. By converting them to MNG, the footprint would be DECREASED! It makes no sense to me why they just can't put it back in!
Posted by LinkTiger at August 14, 2003 6:16 AMFirebird isn't the only Mozilla-based product. The footprint of Firebird might go down overall, but the footprint of other consumers of the rendering engine would go up.
