Comments: Firebird Flap

First Chimera, and now Phoenix. All the cool browser names are getting replaced by cars. =(

Why is Phoenix being renamed?

Kevin, Phoenix Technologies, the BIOS manufacturer, makes an embedded browser for digital systems. That's two browsers known by the name of Phoenix, which is one too many. Hence the change to Firebird.

Jason, "Chimaera" is a car too:

I don't care what you call Phoenix/Firebird, as long as it keeps getting better. Right now, Firebird is the best browser for Windoze--even if it's still a beta.

"Firebird"... Hmmm...

First of all, it appears to be very much too US/UK-centered, as a new name - at least "Phoenix" was more neutral (being Latin).

What could a better name be? "Avis Ignifora" or "Avis Focosa", or some othjer BS-ing pseudo-Latin name? Hmmm... No! :-)

There should be some better alternative - also for the mythical Safari - which (too much) reminds of selfish pesudo-"aristocrats" hunting around in thirld-world Africa for stupid wild animals, etc. etc.

IMHO, there could be much better naming options (or maybe - why not..?. - they shouldn't have an individual name, being part of the system...?) for all the new browsers out there (including my favourite Konqueror, of course: really stupid name for quite a good browser!)...

"To the Firebird DB people: this does not help your cause. It just makes you look utterly unprofessional."

If you had thought about it some more you wouldn't have posted those sentences.
