Can you really recognize when someone is "a little pitchy?" Just curious because I can't. Although I do think I know when someone sucks, so maybe that is just more polite. Interestingly, I always think Ricky sounds out of tune and they are always complimenting his perfect pitch.
I actually think Carmen has some potential, but her performances haven't been great.
Ruben wasn't that inspiring last night, but he is my choice all the way!
Does anyone else think it would be better if we voted against people rather than for people? Everyone knows Ruben is one of the best, I worry (as much as you can about a TV show) that people won't bother to vote for him.
Posted by Mark at March 26, 2003 4:48 PMYep ... if you've got a good ear and have some musical background, it's pretty easy to tell when somebody's pitchy. Good way to train yourself to hear it ... record the show and start going back when they say that a performance was pitchy and listen for it ... you'll learn to identify it and then you'll just know.

Posted by Nick at March 27, 2003 12:44 AMPlease Please PLEASE don't use the word 'pitchy'. Its just...UGH! The word they are looking for 90% of the time is 'intonation'. Randy and Paula get on my nerves with that crap. Anyways, yeah its easy for some people to hear intonation and pitch problems, especially music majors like yours truly ;) I'll go out on a limb here and say, while some people don't like Corey, he probably has some of the most talent of anyone I have seen in a LONG time. That voice is golden, just wait until he gets some training and learns how to sound good even when he's not in the stratosphere.

It's a curse, Brent, a curse.
Posted by hyt at March 30, 2003 6:34 AMCan I ask a question?
What in the world attracts you to American Idol? I don't understand the catch of this show at all. I mean, can you give me a reason why I would want to waste an hour of my time watching this as opposed to wasting an hour of my time sometime later watching The Simpsons?
I'm not trying to be condescending or anything. I just want to know.
