You're using _Xbox_?!! Urgh! No matter you've got hurting hands.

Uh, you do all this and still manage to code???

Posted by Karl at March 15, 2003 1:53 AM

No, he has monkeys to code. He just play games.

While you are waiting for Episode II play Xenogears if you haven't already. It is superb, it easily has the best story and characters in any video game.

Hunh. While I haven't spent a huge amount of time with the X-Box/PS2 controllers, I find the GCN controllers to be the most comfortable controllers I've ever used. I actually have two different ways I'll hold them during the course of a marathon gaming session: One is to actually grip the two "handlebars" with my middle, ring and pinky finger, the other is to just leave those fingers unfolded and kind of cup the bottom of the controller with my hand; I'll usually use the triggers with my middle fingers when I do this, leaving my pointer on my right hand perfectly suited on the Z button (a button that's slightly uncomfortable for me to hit if I grip the handlebars). I'll switch back and forth between them if I'm playing for a while.

Anyway, if it really is that bad, you could get one of those PS2 -> GCN controller adapters. There's a review availiable over at Planet GameCube.

Splinter Cell is beyond amazing. One of the hardest games I've played in a long time.

Posted by The Sick at March 15, 2003 6:52 AM

GTA 3 finished all the missions, floating at 78% ..... still some rampages to do and some serious searching for the hidden packages :) damn i love that game!

Posted by Shadow3333 at March 15, 2003 8:50 AM

Heh, Metroid Prime is your master :)

The hard part is beating it on Hard Mode :)

Posted by mrbiiggy at March 15, 2003 8:58 AM

Splinter Cell for the Xbox is just breath taking! i think it should have stayed exclusive. Its a gem of a game. so is Metroid Prime. but i play Splinter Cell more.

You're crazy, the game cube controller is the best controller out there! Especially the WaveBird.......

Posted by seven5 at March 15, 2003 10:52 AM

Metroid Prime is awesome. I need to continue the game. Unfortunately, I've gotten hooked on Super Smash Bros. Melee. Yesterday I finally unlocked all the characters (Mr. Game & Watch is damn cool - he actually moves in a jerky fashion, it's really weird) and now I need to finish unlocking the levels and getting all the trophies. Then it's back to Metroid Prime. I just got the ice beam in that and grabbed 2 more artifacts. But now there are ghosts EVERYWHERE. It's really hard now.

Man, I want Xenosaga. But I have no money. Oh well.

Posted by Kevin at March 15, 2003 11:14 AM

Kevin: You don't have to fight the ghosts. :)

I think the Xbox "S" controller has hit the right balance for me, but the gamecube controller was pretty damn well near perfect.

Posted by Ross at March 15, 2003 2:31 PM

OOOOoooooh seXbox... Splinter Cell rocks. And I just can't wait for Halo 2... not until next year though.

Splinter Cell was the hardest game I have ever played to date.

Good stuff. Keep up the good work and good gaming Dave!

Man, go back to Vice City immediately! It's the best game out there by far, IMO...

Posted by Justin at March 15, 2003 6:07 PM

yeah, someone else who has issues with the gamecube controller. i thought i was the only one-- everyone else keeps saying 'most comfortable ever'...

no matter how i try to hold the gcn controller, my wrists end up at an angle. i can hold the ps2 controller such that my wrists are straight, though-- this is *extremely important* for me and my tendonitis...

i have long fingers for the size of my hand... i dunno if that makes a difference...

Posted by bunnyhero at March 15, 2003 10:16 PM

Chris - I know you don't have to fight the ghosts, but they still can be pretty damn annoying when moving from room to room.

Oh, and bunnyhero, I think the GC controllers are decent. I really like the one I have that's not the standard controller, but the standard controllor is still decent. I hear the wavebird controllers are awesome. I want one.

Posted by Kevin at March 15, 2003 11:05 PM

I have pretty big hands and some wrist issues, but nevertheless, I have no problems at all with the GCN controllers. I think they're the best controllers I've ever used, hands down. The only thing I don't like about them is the Z button. On the other hand, I also like the Dreamcast controllers, so I may just be weird...

Prime and Super Smash Bros are great, but right now I'm playing Super Monkey Ball 2 (best party game *ever*. Better than Mario Party or Sega Soccer Slam) and Zelda: Kaze no Takuto. I'm actually learning Japanese just so I can get more out of this game, and let me tell you, it's simply amazing. Probably the best game I've ever had the fortune to play.

Splinter Cell is great fun. On Friday, Ubisoft released a new mission for Splinter Cell that you can download if you have Xbox Live. Neat stuff.

Sega's Panzer Dragoon Orta is great shooting fun. Very well executed, and some really beautifully designed and realized CGI intermissions.

I love the original Xbox controller. But I'm 6'6" and have hands like starfish. It's the first controller built for the next stage of human evolution...
