I'm glad to hear you have not completely abandoned Phoenix. In my opinion, you've made one of the most important checkins to Phoenix, such as the new modifier-click features (Alt+Click to Save As for example). You might remember me, I was the one who suggested it! :)
Also, you fixed a lot of bugs very quickly back in the days when Asa read all posts in the Phoenix forums and you could almost have a one on one discussion with the developers.
Unfortunately, I don't own a Mac so I can't test this damn Safari browser, but I'm sure it's a fine product or will be soon. I just wish they could do without you. :)
Posted by David Tenser at January 25, 2003 2:26 PM> Am I supposed to keep working on Mozilla until 2020? :)
Yes, PLEASE!! :D
But I will settle for Phoenix :)
Who really cares if you do or don't stick with projects? You contribute more to them than the vast majority.
Timeless has stuck by Mozilla since before I started using it, but how much he does for it is questionable.
Aside from that I am still conflicted as to Chimera. To me Chimera is already behind Pheonix, and as Pheonix becomes the platform of choice for XUL Chimera will fall much further.
Safari and Chimera share a niche, and Mozilla and Pheonix share a niche. Glad to see you (anyone at the moment) still commited to Pheonix, and if it (officially) came to OS X it would be my browser of choice.
Posted by nnooiissee at January 25, 2003 3:35 PMYou're forgetting Manticore, Dave ;-)
Posted by Ben at January 25, 2003 3:56 PMWhy did you remove the Safari icon/link? Apple's behest?
Posted by safarifan at January 25, 2003 4:04 PMWow, Dave, you're an amazing guy.. But I alwasy hope that you'll be more focused on Phoenix.. but well..
Posted by cheeaun at January 25, 2003 4:24 PMDavid Tenser we need Hyatt! So just keep your happy Phoenix hands off him okay? :)
Umm not sure this is the right place to ask but are the any other 'famous' computer bloggers?
Also Safarifan are you talking about the Safari User Button?
The same one that's on Apple.com? Don't mean to brag but.... I have one myself :)
Go David Hyatt!
Mike Pinkerton's blog has moved it's now hosted on mozillazine, would you care updating your link please ?
Posted by Ludovic Hirlimann at January 25, 2003 11:10 PMYou rule!, Really. =)
Posted by Assimil8or at January 26, 2003 8:32 AMAm I the only person who would prefer to have someone with experience working on a new browser than not? I don't give a damn how many browsers Dave works on so long as each one is better than the last...

Are you guys shitting me?! Blake is 8-years old!
I read his blog. If an 8-year old wrote that, then he should be running the world or something. =D
Posted by CJ at January 26, 2003 11:05 AMI don't think you even need to defend yourself against catty accusations like this. Software's not like cooking - it's never truly finished.
It's more like politics - people expect you to serve a term, not necessarily "finish" the country.
... although George W. Bush may well DO that, come to think of it...
Posted by adam at January 26, 2003 11:32 AMi don't mean to correct you dave, but i believe what the author of that comment was saying is that you've worked on as many browsers (you named five, plus safari and manticore [?] which would total 7) as blake is old (8). so the author was wrong, but only by 1, if my calculations are correct. feel free to correct me if they aren't, however.
Posted by kretorik at January 26, 2003 11:38 AM> but my reasons for leaving Chimera should be obvious by now.
Sorry for me being an idiot, but I still don't get it. Chimera seems to be the best browser going for OS X now, why would you want to leave it?
Posted by Anonymous Idiot at January 26, 2003 1:39 PMFor the record, Blake is 17 years old. He will turn 18 this year.
Posted by David Tenser at January 26, 2003 2:02 PMIs he really? But he has children? And a wife? I'm rather confused about this.
REF: http://blakesbitches.blogspot.com/2002_04_07_blakesbitches_archive.html on the bottom of the page. The last entry says him and his wife just had a baby...hmm...
Posted by kretorik at January 26, 2003 3:18 PMAnonymous Idiot, because AOL would not support Chimera. It could only have ever been a "spare time" project, and AOL was increasingly drawing me away from Mozilla and into lame AOL initiatives that I had no interest in.
When your own company won't even support your browser, that isn't much fun. I decided I'd rather work for a company (Apple) that was actually committed to its product (Safari).
Posted by hyatt at January 26, 2003 3:58 PMkretorik, Blake was just joking on that page. He was just trying to make his point heard.
Again, for the record, here's a picture of Blake:

Blake is actually a creature of incredible myth and speculation. When he was at Netscape during the summer of 2001, he supposedly occupied a cubicle about ten feet from where I was sitting, but I never saw anything but a tuft of black hair from behind two giant monitors. Some commentators have speculated that that wasn't actually Blake Ross at all, but an actor paid by the elusive 8 year old to sit there and type keys randomly.
Posted by Ben at January 26, 2003 8:29 PMBut you're the one who took the picture, right? :)
I was wondering, do you have any pictures of Asa Dotzler?
Posted by David Tenser at January 27, 2003 4:08 AMthat's a truely disturbing photo
Posted by troll at January 27, 2003 10:24 AMThe image just changed. It's not Blake Ross anymore. Someone's afraid of showing his real identity. :-\
Posted by David Tenser at January 27, 2003 10:57 AMAh, poor David.
Here's another picture of Blake:

Now go find someone else to stalk.
Posted by Alex Bishop at January 27, 2003 4:26 PMThanks Alex :)
Sorry if you thought I was stalking just because I was browsing Ben Goodgers pictures.
