I knew it! They are not just evil, they're smart too.
Will Safari ever support connecting to secure websites that DO NOT have an official certificate?
I run a site which does not have an official cert. and Safari
refuses to connect while Chimera will do so just fine (Explorer will not however). I mean, I need secure transfer but not necessarily trust (in this case). A dialog box, like Chimera, would be sufficient, warning you or something.
LOL - one token comment on the blog entry then WHAM - right back to Safari.

Posted by Rich at January 21, 2003 1:57 PMI think the article proves scorpions are NOT evil. I mean they always use the less deadly poison first. Then if you don't stop threatening them they kill you. Seems the nice way to do it to me.

Posted by Ron at January 21, 2003 2:08 PMAnyone else find these popups really hard to read in safari? The light-gray on white just doesnt do it for the human eye. And i can't use the alternate stylesheet because safari freaks out.
Posted by Ben at January 21, 2003 2:33 PMYes, gray on white is not too good for my eyes, a bit more contrast would probably not hurt anyone.
Posted by Jussi at January 21, 2003 2:41 PMKind of reminds me of the reason the rattlesnake showed up on so many US Revolutionary War flags: it was not only an indigenous American animal, but one considered noble because of its graduated threat response-- it warns you first.
Usually.
Posted by Matt McIrvin at January 21, 2003 5:03 PMOther scary notes about scorpions:
They actually have _metal_ incorporated in their pincers - the metal content of food they ingest gets incorporated into their pincers. _Freaky_!
During nuclear weapons tests in the fifties, they apparently found live scorpions in the blast radius, perfectly fine. Yikes.
Poisonous nuclear blast-proof cyborg scorpions - sounds like the plot from a sci-fi horror flick from the fifties, doesn't it?
Posted by Tumbleweed at January 21, 2003 7:16 PMSafari checks the site certs are signed by a cert in the /System/Library/Keychains/X509Anchors keychain. You can add certs to that keychain using the command-line /usr/bin/certtool. (You will also need privileges to write to the X509Anchors file.)
This is something that Apple really do have to make easier.
Posted by Chris at January 22, 2003 12:44 AMI think there's nothing wrong with scorpions. Ever heard of animal survival instincts?
