A second resolution would have been voted away, democratically.
So if there will be a war, and it seems like there's going to be one, the UN will lose a lot (if not all) of its credibility.
It's in particularly sad if you recall that post-war US was the driving force behind the UN: An international and most of all: a democratic institution.
