Are none of the Firefox developers willing to come up with a project that they want to mentor?

Dan: one reason is because the Mozilla Corporation has an intern program, many core Firefox developers are involved in that instead. But over and above that, you'll have to ask them :-) Mentoring is a time commitment; not everyone has time.
