Right: Welcome back + Nice photos.
It's not pertinent to ask a photographer for his equipment, but I'll do it anyway. :-)
For example, I wonder what lens you selected for the portrait of say, the african refugee.
I gather it's a prime (which focal length?) because of the rather short dof, and it's sharpness. I may be terribly wrong.
Again, great photos.
I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT. The lens was an 85mm f/1.8, a great lens, but prone to chromatic aberration wide open like you see in the pic. For that matter, most lenses seem prone to some form of CA when wide open, but I like shooting natural light, so I take the good with the bad. The good is that the lens is extremely sharp, and reliable.
Thanks for the compliment!
Posted by Chris at June 24, 2006 8:09 PMI am going to try to make it there. I'm in Pittsburgh.
Posted by Caribbean at June 25, 2006 1:13 AMChris, I own the 85mm f/1.8 myself, so there was some instant recognisation, especially with the DOF. I guess you chose an aperture greater than f/4.5, (my guess would be f/3.5, or f/2.8, depending on the distance, and judging from the collar of the refugee).
Great choice, and again, fine shooting.
According to the exif data, it's wide open -- 1.8. I recall the day as being very gloomy and cold, with little sun. Because I aim to get the most detailed, clean result I can, I try to stick to ISO 100 as much as possible, and that's what I was doing on that day (and thus the reason for being wide open). I paid the price in CA, however, and had to take a while to clean it up. I should receive the print for the show by Tuesday, and I'll see if my work paid off.
Posted by Chris at June 25, 2006 11:00 AMDefinitely stop by, if you can. Not sure if I'll be there all through the Arts Fest (it's not a booth, but a show in the bookstore), but say hi if you see me.
