Plan for the Mozilla Store

I will be traveling to St. Louis in a few weeks to meet with our domestic store vendor to map out a merchandising plan for the upcoming year. We have added a few items recently that are quite popular, including the Firefox Ogio Messenger Bag.

Some possible ideas:

(1) Offer Firefox shirts in different colors (other than navy and black) and different styles. We printed the Firefox party shirt in maroon and that seemed to go over well. I would like to stick with American Apparel product as much as possible to take advantage of the fact that both stores can obtain that product.
(2) I have gotten a few samples from http://www.alternativeapparel.com/. I like the style of their shirts.
(3) We have a navy blue Firefox Flexfit baseball cap. We are retiring the Polo cap. Any ideas for new hats other than baseball style hats?
(4) A Firefox or Mozilla jacket. I have been investigating doing a Gas Station style jacket.
(5) The Ogio Messenger Bag is popular. What about a tote bag of some sort?
(6) Should we ditch this bag? Cast your vote now
(7) Posters?
(8) Firefox and Thunderbird laptop badges?
(9) Stickers?
(10) Magnets?

If you have ideas concerning apparel or other items you would like to see in the store, please feel free to pass those comments on to marcia@mozilla.org or post your comments below.

Stickers and posters would be great, free advertising :)

Stickers: Very cool.
Badges: Awesome.
As for hats...toques with some sort of patch on them would be nice, it's getting to be that season!

It would be cool to see some of the original Mozilla stuff (with the lizard). So embedders can pimp the technology.

Whatever happened to the Firefox plush toy? Can we please bring those back, maybe make more plush toys? I would kill for a lizard plush toy.

A beanie might be cool.

What about stubby holders? I would definitely buy one if you had them!

Keyrings, lanyards, mouse mats, stress balls!

What about a Firefox mug?

Please do not forget the international users. Mozilla announces products & prices worldwide, but sells (for this price) only in the US-shop. That's annoying every time! For instance Fx2-party shirt: announced for 10 USD in both US-Shop and Int.-shop, sold for EUR 17 (=USD 21.75) in Int.shop (both prices without (!) shipping). See MZ-thread for detais:

Thx ;)

Having bought one of the bags in Question 6, I think it's great - it accompanied me on a recent holiday and held everything I needed to carry on a daily basis.

Hello !

Stuff like stickers, posters, mugs, magnets would be very good. People like those things too : http://blogzinet.free.fr/images/peluche_firefox.jpg (I can't remind the english name of that toy) but it seems to have disappeared from the store. Am I wrong ?

However, I suppose that the posters would be only in English, on the intlstore too.

Thomas, the Firefox plush toy does seem to have quite a following. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322367 is the only bug unrelated to software bugs/features/specs that has over a hundred votes.

Posted by: Jesse Ruderman at November 4, 2006 3:31 AM

Hello !

Like Thomas, i would like a Firefox plush toy ! I love it, and many people want to get one but they can't ...

Posted by: Omnisilver at November 4, 2006 4:04 AM

Hey, I see Pascal Chevrel lied to me when he said only the French community cared about the return of the plush toy.

Anyway, now that we know about that bug, you should expect a few hundreds more votes shortly :)

My suggestions :
- a generic mobile phone sheath with a firefox logo
- we had red Firefox Party Tshirts for the Paris Party and they looked great : http://picasaweb.google.com/pascalc/Firefox2/photo#4993582482749128722
- the laptop bag is not good, it's too shiny and it looks like a school bag. A laptop bag is a good idea though, but we need something that looks more professional.

Benoit, Ok, if you insist I am sure we can find a second-hand Firefox plush in the Paris flea market for you :p

Posted by: pascalc at November 4, 2006 9:16 AM

Ok, here are some answers:

(1) The Firefox plush toy was a carryover item from our previous store. At this time we cannot find the original manufacturer, and due to cost and volume considerations, we are not pursuing carrying this item in the Mozilla store.

(2) There has been some talk of having a Mozilla Classic line that would bring back the the feel of some of the old Mozilla dino designs. Currently there is also a plan in place to offer a Mozilla dino head bag in black in a similar style to the Firefox Ogio Messenger bag.

(3) Amsterdammer - I do not forget the International audience. In fact, I am trying hard to work to offer the same apparel items in both stores. That is why I mention in the post that we are trying to go with American Apparel items, since they can be sold in both stores. But unfortunately, because of cost considerations, items in the International Store will likely have to be priced higher than those offered in the U.S. store. As to what happened about the Firefox Party Tshirt, I am sorry that there was confusion about what the final price was - we tried to make it the tshirt affordable for all of our partygoers.

Pascalc: Thank you very much, but I have secured mine long ago. It's just that I can't stand the jealous look people cast at me when they learn about it :)

I would love to have posters and stickers. A plush toy would be awesome too. Judging from the picture, the backpack has to go IMO. Good work. :)

I suggest ditching the European computer backpack and replace it with a better crafter one. I don't think that the computer is that well protected in the bag, and the straps are a bit too short (at least for me, but I know I'm bigger than most people). The overall quality and finish may also be slightly under our standard, IMHO. (Or maybe it's just that I'm spoiled :-)

Stickers! Everyone loves them, plus free advertising.

Posted by: Jon Prichard at November 20, 2006 7:24 AM

alternative apparel.

Posted by: jarod at December 4, 2006 9:20 AM

A mug would be great, There are 101 engineers here. 100 of them want a Firefox mug and one who doesn't (me) coz I still got mine (just - it's been held hostage twice.......)

Posted by: Adrian at February 3, 2007 8:02 AM

Considering how munch people enjoy japanese animations and the whole japanese stuff, no doubt the plush toy would be a great idea and would be heavily sold everywhere around the world

Definately something I would buy!
Make it cute, ohhhh yes: make it cuuuuuuuute! ^^
