As promised, here is an update on the documentary film shoot I participated in this weekend:
Traveled to Davis on Friday night. Long day of shooting on Saturday. Another long day of shooting on Sunday. There were no creative differences and the director was kind enough to put up with the somewhat temperamental cinematographer who was rather insistent that they not leave until she got her broom shot. The crew was well fed and we also had peanut M&M's, which made the cinematographer happy. Preliminary review of the footage indicated lighting was good and in general the director was pleased with what we got. Editing should begin sometime in early June. The film will likely be submitted to some film festivals for consideration.
The film focuses on a hair salon in Davis called "The Hair Saloon." It was the owner's dream to open her own salon, but shortly after doing so she was diagnosed with cancer. We shot a day's worth of footage of clients coming into the salon as well as interviews with each customer after they had their hair done. On Sunday, we shot interviews with the owner, co-owner and one of the employees.
As time progresses I will update this blog with what is happening in the editing room.
