Blessing From SQLite Source Code
I was looking at some of the source code for SQLite today, and ran across this. Nice break from the usual legalese.

That's what I've been doing with all my new code for some time now. I have an utter disgust for the GPL and FSF.
Usually I insert a scripture verse in place of a copyright. It's no much nicer for lack of a better word.

Probably because the FSF have shown a willingness to abuse their assigned copyright for things like the GNU Emacs manual. I'm still quite fond of the GPL, but I'd never assign my copyright for "safekeeping" now.

I find the GPL2/3 to be way too confusing and long-winded for the stuff I do (PHP code). I started using ZLib instead.

The XEmacs people wanted to crib bits of it, but theirs is licensed under the GPL and the RMSmacs one is GFDL. Stallman's personal response was not exactly charitable, and he made it clear that the primary reason for the refusal was spite.

Either party involved could change their license to be compatible with the other - don't stick all the blame on RMS here.

It was RMS's personal decision though, and the GFDL (especially as used in the GNU Emacs manual) is less Free than the GPL, so it's pretty hard to see the Xemacs people as being wrong here.
