I Hate the Dentist...
...but I think I've found one I can actually go to without worry. If you're in the San Jose area, and you've been trying to find a good dentist, Dr. Burch is the guy.
I've been avoiding the dentist for a good 4 years now, because the last time I went I couldn't chew on the right side of my mouth for months. I had to go in 3 or 4 times to have them work on my teeth until they could get the pain to stop. Anyhow, a few weeks back I ended up badly chipping a tooth, so much so that almost half the exposed tooth came loose and left a large-size hole. Long story short, I had to get it fixed, and to do that would require a root canal. We searched the AOL provider directory for a dentist that would put you to sleep for a procedure, and came up with Dr. Burch.
My girlfriend called him, and he actually came in on his day off on a Friday, while the office was closed, to see me. He pretty much calmed me down right there, and convinced me that he would be able to do the procedure without putting me to sleep. Well, with only one very minor issue (my teeth hate me, and they frequently have areas that don't get numb the first time, a booster shot fixed it up), we're two thirds of the way through (the root's been killed and removed, and the canal has been filled, and I now have a temporary cap) with no pain, and no problems. The last appointment where I get my crown will be in about a week and a half, and looks to be the easiest part.
Anyhow. So far, this is the best dentist I've been to that I can remember, and I figured I'd make my quarterly update a quick plug for him. If you do go, mention you found him on the internet, and I think you get a 200 dollar discount. Mention I told you about him here, and you get the 200 bucks, and I get 100 off my root canal bill :).
