Getting A Job With Your Free Software Experience

A while back, I was thinking about how to make the Google Summer of Code more immediately useful to students in getting jobs. That idea led to a useful discussion with Zak Greant and the lovely Leslie Hawthorn, who runs GSoC. Before becoming a professional cat-herder, Leslie was a recruiter at Google and so knows a lot about both the hiring process and free software. That discussion eventually resulted in this document:

How To Put Free Software Experience On Your Resumé

It's a summary of a ton of useful advice from several wise people who know what they are talking about in this area. Please feel free to send the link to anyone who has free software experience and is currently looking for a job.

Eventually, we hope there will be a companion document for employers: How To Read Free Software Experience On A Resumé. But I haven't yet written that one.
