Posted by: Happy at August 6, 2004 9:52 PM

YAY i got it much thanks man

Posted by: Happy at August 6, 2004 9:53 PM

Well done! Working great for me. So, I'm guessing this was just due to a change google made. Might or might not have been to prevent extensions like this and other applications from notifying people how many new mails they have or allowing them to download the emails into an email client. Am I wrong?

Posted by: brutalwit at August 6, 2004 10:29 PM

Thank you very much for your hard work on this extension.

Posted by: Nathan at August 6, 2004 11:54 PM

Thanks man! That's really helpful...

Posted by: minghong at August 7, 2004 3:52 AM

I don't get it... Why would Google stop notifier applications? We don't eat that much of their bandwidth, do we?

Posted by: Markus Lindström at August 7, 2004 4:37 AM

Thank you Doron. Much appreciated. You are the best.

GREAT. Got the notification running again, now even with the extremely ugly icon produced by Google. Guess you'll have to do a new fix soon when they start creating a new icon ;-).

Posted by: localhost at August 8, 2004 1:26 AM

I like the icon. Keep it.

Posted by: Iliketheicon at August 8, 2004 8:07 AM

Posted by: leea at August 8, 2004 8:37 AM

Posted by: leea at August 8, 2004 8:58 AM

Are you having trouble with your shift key?

Posted by: Garrett at August 8, 2004 9:03 AM

Uninstall your old Gmail Notifier, close Firefox, open Firefox again and install the 0.3.3 release, close Firefox and then open Firefox and you should be OK.

Posted by: HelpisontheWay_vote Kerry at August 8, 2004 11:46 AM

I couldn't log in this morning so I thought I'd check out your blog to see if anyone else was having the same problem, only to find you've already fixed it! Thanks, that works like a charm.

I like the icon too, by the way.

Two questions:

1) Is it possible for the count of unread messages to appear in the status bar of all browser windows? It only seems to appear in the window I logged in from.

2) I'm behind an authenticated proxy, and if I haven't yet authenticated in this session then the gmail notifier won't prompt me - it just fails. As long as I've authenticated already it works fine. I suspect this may be something you don't have any control over, but I thought I'd let you know just in case.

Thanks again for a great little tool.

Yours,

John

Thanks for a really useful extension. Normally i leave Gmail open, and it autorefreshes every minute, but occasionally it locks up, and i dont notice for a while. This works well.

Thanks again,
SharkyTM

I'm happy to confirm this has solved the login issue. Great job.

I'd like to earn a GMail invite, and I know you said you wanted a nicer-looking icon... but I don't know where to email it.

Hey i love this extenson,i wish it had sopme sound support into it.(like it plays it sound whenever i get a new email).Great extension anyway.

Great tool! Any chance on removing the parenthesis from the new mail indicator in the status bar? I noticed that some themes report Firefox updates this way (icon + number without parenthesis). Otherwise, a great plugin... I probably wouldn't check my gmail account if I didn't have this.

Posted by: Chris Stone at August 12, 2004 9:46 AM

Uhhh...what is supposed to happen after you install it?

Posted by: BeerMonkey at August 12, 2004 10:21 AM

you know how when you open gmail, it refreshes by itself? Is it possbile to use that feature to check for new emails instead of the extension doing it manually? because I got this email:

Our system has detected unusual usage of your
Gmail account. For your protection, we have temporarily disabled all
access to your account.

If you suspect that the unusual usage of your account has been caused by a
third party, we recommend that you change your password and secret
question once you are able to log back in to Gmail. You should be able to
access your account again within 24 hours.

If you are using any software that automatically logs in to your account,
or automatically sends and receives messages, we ask that you disable the
software before accessing Gmail again. Please note that the use of such
third-party software is not supported by Gmail.

Thanks for the gmail notifier, a really great tool. There's just two things I'd like to see. An option to hide the (0) when there are no messages, either it's own, or tied to the auto-login feature. And, more important in my view, have it automatically reset the new messages count to 0 when I click it to open gmail. Now, I have to click it, open gmail, read all my messages, and right click it and choose check now. Would be a nice little step to skip.

Wow, google has it's own gmail notifer.. lol with the same name http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/20/1251258&threshold=-1&tid=217&tid=95&tid=1 lol at first I thought it was talkin about this notifier, but obvisously not. oh by the way Good Work love this addition for firefox.

How can I obtain a GMail invite? Does anyone have an extra one?

Posted by: Al at August 24, 2004 8:37 AM

Doron, thanks for a great extension. I have a request for a future revision, and couldn't find a better place to send/post it. So here it is:

It would be nice if the "remember password" box was persistent, so that you could uncheck it, and the next time you clicked to login it remembered that it was unchecked last time. As things stand now, since I don't want it to remember my password, I have to uncheck that box every time I enter my username and password combo.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

My account was blocked today for 24 hours because Gmail detects "suspicious activity" regarding my account access. Could it be because of the use of this notifier ?
I really don't like using their app, uses 10 Mb of ram for what? and it opens the email inbox in a new window, not a new tab but I really don't like blocking access to my inbox because of your extension :(

Posted by: Emil Tamas at August 24, 2004 6:39 PM

Great work! Im addicted to this extension (and gmail). Keep ut the good work!
I have a feature request that I assume many would appreciate. What about a function in the extension to make it catch all mailto:'links with gmail?

Posted by: Kristoffer Egil Bonarjee at August 29, 2004 9:21 AM

Google has apparently changed their login prodedure again, and broken your excellent extension. I have a screen shot up on my blog.

I'm having trouble with it - it just sticks to the "login" screen and doesn't advance.

I have installed the GMail Notifier 0.3.3 on Firefox under Mac and Windows.
After the installation and the first start, the plugin works very fine.
On the seccond start of firefox the GMail Notifier works, but my A9 Toolbar (www.a9.com /amazon websearch) don't will work.
When i uninstall the GMail Plugin, the A9 Toolbar works again without any trouble.
So, i have a little conflict at this time. GMail Notifier is great, but i need very often the A9 toolbar with the integrated services.
