Operation: MailCo
Over the last months, as David Ascher has been working on spinning out MailCo, I've had the opportunity to spend a bunch of time talking with him about the ideas he's got, and it's gotten me pretty excited. I've come to feel that it's important that MailCo gets off to a good start so that it can grow into a hub around which the Mozilla community can hack on messaging-related stuff of all sorts.
I care a lot about this space, and since I've spent a number of years of my life working on both Mozilla's mail/news and calendaring efforts, I feel like I'm in a relatively unique position to help get things rolling. So I'm pleased to announce that I'm joining David to help launch the MailCo effort. I've started off by committing to help out for the next four months or so, after which we'll sit down and figure out what makes the most sense from there.
I've really enjoyed working on the Firefox team, and one of the reasons I feel comfortable making this change is that it's clear that Firefox is firing on all cylinders. The fact that even the betas have gotten such amazingly positive reviews speaks volumes. I'll be working with everyone involved to make the transition as smooth as possible.

This is the only time I've ever been glad to read about something that's "gotten [you] pretty excited."
Congratulations to you and to MailCo, it's great news for you both.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys.
@Stephen: we don't know about schedules yet, but we'll be publicly discussing and posting our targets as we get a little further along...
