The *bird helpsites are now available in French and Japanese!
Thanks to noririty for translating Thunderbird Help into Japanese and thanks to Thirifay Olivier for translating Mozilla Firebird Help and Thunderbird Help into French.
I'm currently trying to catch up a bit on my overloaded inbox. You don't realize just how much time you put into Mozilla until you're away from the computer a couple of days.
I just added an extensions section for Thunderbird Help. It's still using the separate JavaScript "database" but we're working on using the newly created database.mozdev.org project's database instead.
Sorry Scott for being so slow! I'm on a semi-vacation right now and I'm not spending that much time in front of the computer.
On another notice, I got burnt in the sun today. I look like a combination of a pig and a tomato.
I passed the exam! Something tells me this will be a great summer! :)
(I had three exams this period, two of them I was pretty sure I passed, but the last one was really tricky (Calculus) and I didn't get the result until today. What a relief to know it's really over now. I got 13 points and the limit was... 13 points!)
Yes, I know Internet Explorer is a mess, but I certainly didn't know this...
I've heard that the same version of IE renders css differently on different versions of Windows. That's true, but there's even more: There are different versions of the same version of IE on Windows 95!
I've tried this blog on two computers, the first one running Windows 95 with IE 5.5 (SP1) and the other one running Windows 95 with IE 5.5 (SP1) as well. Those two computers doesn't render the blog the same way. At all.
After looking in the About window for a more detailed version number it turns out that one is running IE 5.50.4807.2300 and the other one IE 5.50.4522.1800. I then went to Windows Update to see if there was any updates (e.g. hotfixes, etc.) for the older version, but according to the site IE was completely up to date.
So appearantly IE 5.5 SP1 on Windows 95 is not necessarily the same as IE 5.5 SP1 on Windows 95!
I'm at work today and I visited my weblog using Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 95 and... it looks like crap! This browser really sucks, the blog looks like a mess. I'll need help fixing the css to be compatible... any ideas anyone?
Henrik Gemal (among other stuff known for the great Linky extension) has made a neat list of recently updated Mozilla weblogs.
What a coincidence that I created this weblog only two days ago! The timing couldn't have been better.
Asa reports that today is Blake Ross' birthday. I guess we'll have to read non-existant ramblings from a 9 year old in the future then...
I like the new Thunderbird build! I tried the new theme install feature by first visiting my theme page and download a theme, then selecting Tools > Options... > Themes. Appearantly, there's a small error there making the Install button almost barely visible at the far right edge but I was able to click it anyway.
The first theme I chose to install was Pinball and Thunderbird immediately switched to the new theme! When trying with the Skypilot theme it said the changes will not take effect until I restart Thunderbird. Don't know why I got it right the first try...
Anyway, Thunderbird is just getting better and better with each build. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially for people currently using Outlook Express. I get viruses almost every day (mostly through spam) but since I'm using Thunderbird, I don't need to fear that my computer will take any damage because unlike Microsoft products, Thunderbird just won't run the viruses!
I think I've found a design that pleases my eyes now. Users of Mozilla Firebird may recognize the small site icon. It's from the default toolbar's Home button by Arvid Axelsson, but designed to look like a nest-box.
For anyone who doesn't really understand the idea of having two birds in the background I have two words for you: fire and thunder!
Thunderbird Help has been translated to Dutch. Thanks RAF!
Also, the site now has a themes section (currently featuring only two themes). Scott will post new builds today or tomorrow that will include support for theme installations from the Options window.
I'm looking forward to try the new build out.
Update: There are now three themes for Thunderbird listed! That's a 50% increase! :)
Me, Jed Brown, clav, cdn and alanjstr are discussing possible ways to merge the work done by alanjstr at Mozilla Firebird Help and the guys at Extension Room.
Our vision is to create XML databases hosted on a separate mozdev.org project which would be accessible for all of us (and perhaps even some prominent extension/theme authors). In the end, this highly scalable database will be accessible to my sites (Mozilla *bird Help), Extension Room (hosting extensions for all sorts of Mozilla applications) and perhaps even from Mozilla Firebird itself.
There are still lots of issues, both technical and decision oriented. For example, what categories should the databases include? How will the information be parsed from the different sites? What scripting language is best to use?
Hopefully, all of these questions will be straightened out soon.
No, I'm not really satisfied with this design either, but it's slowly getting there. This will take some time, that's for sure. At least I'm not using the default design anymore...
This is my first blog in history. I don't really know what to say, so I won't say anything. I'll probably spend a decent amount of time customizing this blog so it looks just the way I want it to. It'll take some time I guess, but it'll be fun!
I'd like to thank kerz and MozillaZine.org for hosting this weblog. Thanks a lot!
Thanks also to Björn Thornell who switched workday with me today because I had a cold. GoSpurs!! :)
