texturizer.net -> mozilla.org

It's done. More or less. Here's the new Firefox Help: www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/support

Thanks to Steven Garrity for the initial help and the continuous feedback. Thanks also to Rafael Ebron for your feedback and communication on behalf of the Mozilla Foundation. While I'm on a thanking spree, I'd like to thank Asa Dotzler for his initial encouragement. Firefox Help would probably not exist if it wasn't for you, Asa!

I will keep on updating and maintaining the help pages, but I gladly welcome help from others too. If you want to discuss the pages, you know where to find me.

Well, now that it's ready, shouldn't maybe the "Firefox Help" link on the main http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ page be updated to point to the new location?

The copyright link on every page (© 2002-2004 David Tenser.) points to the non existent page

Nice work David and Steven!

(When) will Thunderbird Help follow?

Posted by: Greg K Nicholson at October 6, 2004 12:30 AM

not forgetting of course thanks to texturizer who have so kindly hosted the old site for these last few years.

Constructive criticism:

There's no way to get back to index.html. Once I'm in a subpage, I can't get back to the main page without using my back button.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/support/menu.html is way broken, breaking the layout and having about 10 extra closing div tags.

Other than that, it looks really nice!

Good to see the help already there. I was looking for it last weekend but didn't see it there on m.o

Thomas: The copyright link is there probably because it existed in the texturizer.net version.

Simplex: I think David misplaced the latest file he has for menu.html.

David, should I send the latest version of menu.html again?

Assuming you don't want to maintain two versions, texturizer.net/firefox/ should have a permanent redirect to mozilla.org/products/firefox/support/

While I will miss the beautiful design of the old Firefox help, this is a good move. Great work David.

The end of an era

I think a link should be placed and stickied at mozillaZine for feedback, or at least an official place to give a little feedback (unless thats what this post is for?)

David, you rock!

The keyboard shortcuts are outdated. e.g. Ctrl + J no longer trigger Page Info (which is quite sad IMO)...

Dude, noone can compare.

Thank you.

Yep. Unless you do a 404 on texturizer.net, many search engines will trip it's duplicate content filter and things get messy from there.

Posted by: x at October 6, 2004 3:03 PM

You should send a 301 code (permanently moved) to the new URL.

Posted by: Simplex at October 6, 2004 5:03 PM

Nice update, sadly though some of the "Tips & Tricks" no longer work under 1.0PR so that page desperately needs an update or new users are going to get rapidly frustrated.

Posted by: Jules at October 6, 2004 5:55 PM

While I think this was the right move, I have to say , the previous design was more user-friendly.
