Let's use Mozilla Firefox on Mälardalen University!

Today I wrote an e-mail to the network administrators and IT executives at Mälardalen University, suggesting that they install Firefox on every computer on campus. This is what I wrote (in Swedish; a translation to English is provided in the Comments section by Jens Gyldenkærne Clausen):

Hej!

Mvh,

David Tenser

I'm looking forward to their response.

I can strongly suggest you translate this to English for those who need such a translation to understand the letter, but your decision is of course entirely up to you. ;-)

What, you can't tell what "För mer information om Firefox," means?

A translation to english would be nice to us non-sweden speakers... ;)

Firefox became the defacto browsing standard for all offices at Boston University this summer. I just walked into the student union office one day and Firefox was on every computer. The new Internet terminals installed in the student union basement run Linux and Firefox -- totally MS free. It should be noted that BU is one of the largest universities in the US, with a combined undergrad and graduate student body of 30,000. YAY FOR MOZILLA!

Väl skrivet David :-)

On all datorer find naturally Internet Explorer installed , which also is standardwebbläsaren. Many datorer ( all? ) had also Opera installed , which amaze me as the am costing money , alternatively am exposing bothersome advertisement. Any datorer had even immemorial Netscape 4.x installed. Yous feels certainly to webbläsaren Mozilla Firefox , as have got exceedingly positive criticism in media and second coherence. The is open source ( freely that uses for free ), few , quickly and very saves than Internet Explorer. Moreover find the for both Windows and Linux. Midst proposal / wish is that Firefox establish on all datorer in network , then the is one very better alternative than transfer ex IE / Opera of so many various causes. Here is a hand-made translation from a dane. My knowledge of Swedish more or less as good as my knowledge of English - none of the languages are native to me, but I can understand both of them, and I think that the following translation should be sufficient to clarify what David wrote.

Here we go:

Hi!

This mail is to those in charge of the software installed on the computers in MDH's computer rooms. If I have sent to the wrong person, please help me to find the right one!

On every computer is of cause installed Internet Explorer, which also is the standard browser. Many of the computers (perhaps all?) have also installed Opera, something that surprises me since it costs money or alternatively shows annoying adds. Some computers have even the ancient Netscape 4.x installed.

You probably know the browser Mozilla Firefox that has got very positive reviews in the media and other places. It is open source (free to use), small, quick and a lot safer than Internet Explorer. Furthermore it is available on both Windows and Linux. My suggestion/wish is that Firefox is installed on all computers in the network, since it is a much better alternative than i.e. IE/Opera of so many different reasons. Merely in my own class DATL03 there are 4-5 people using it as standard web browser (installed in their home directory H:\).

I am looking forward to hearing your views on this!
