I got six Gmail invites today and thought I should give them away to the Mozilla community. However, I will try a slightly more productive approach than just giving them away to the first few comment posters. I will give away my invites to people who make a significant contribution to the Firefox/Thunderbird Help sites, which in the end will benefit the Mozilla Foundation. :) Here's what you need to do in order to qualify (pick one of these alternatives):
The six persons who make the most important contributions will get Gmail accounts. Please send the contributions to my tenser account at gmail and post a comment here summarizing what you've done.
Posted by djst at June 21, 2004 4:23 PMHi
I don't expect a Gmail account, but you could start by fixing the Name attribute on the Firefox logo which reads 'Screenshot of the Firefox browser!'
That's my constructive criticism for the day all run dry...
Posted by: Gids at June 21, 2004 6:28 PMYou should just give them away. Your site isn't even helpful. All you have going for you is Keyboard/Mouse Shortcuts, and even that is useless, when we have Offline Firefox Help. Why do we need the clutter of IE/Opera shortcuts? Your Tips/Tricks sections is totally irrelevant and confusing. Also try good web design. Your font is cute but hard to read. Why not the standard Arial or something?
If you really want to be helpful, address the problems stickied on Mozillazine Firefox Support.
>Your site isn't even helpful. (flame,flame,flame)
Its easy to see that you want a Gmail account!
Many of the advanced tips convered by Firefox Help, such as UserChrome hacks aren't part of the regular help file, nor should they be. Firefox help fills an important part of the community.
Posted by: Gids at June 21, 2004 8:08 PMWould contributing an IM extension for Firefox and soon Thunderbird qualify?
Posted by: Carl at June 21, 2004 9:05 PMHi
I sent djst an update to the text of the options window reference (added the new Firefox 0.9 settings, and other small changes). I haven't made new screenshots of the Firefox 0.9 options window, so I bet djst would be happy if someone contributed some.
By the way, djst's clean XHTML is very easy to edit, so I encourage people to help (not just for the Gmail account).
Hey I really like your site and the only thing I have off the top of my head is... as update.mozilla.org progresses, make it clear like if that is an *official* place to get extensions as opposed to your site...
Anyway, surely GMail is going out of Beta soon? :)
Posted by: Jafe Mourner at June 22, 2004 3:57 AMI just sent in changes in the cookie documentation. I have made 0.9 screenshots and I have also done a good amount of rearranging and rewriting to the text as the old organization didn't seem to fit with the way the manager works now.
Insidently, I also found a bug in the manager while working on this.
I have a whole bunch of invites as well - 7 at the moment. I want to give them to people who are helping the Moz project as well. How do I do that.
Posted by: yfan at June 22, 2004 7:44 AMJonathan, thanks! Enjoy your new Gmail account! :) I will publish the updated Cookies document when I've reviewed it more carefully.

I DEMAND one.
Posted by: RAF at June 25, 2004 10:08 AMFire Fox is awesome. Someone installed it on a computer in our school. It is now accessable throughout the school. None of the administrators know but the schools security/site restrictions have no controll over what you do. Therefore, you can check your email. To improve upon this, do what you do best, keep it free.
Posted by: mike at June 25, 2004 5:10 PMGert-Paul, thanks for the update! I've sent an invite to you.
RAF, you suck. And Sweden will win. :p

Posted by: jack at June 27, 2004 10:50 PMI would love a Gmail account. I have been hearing about it for a while ... A gig of remote storage, wow, the possibilities. I have been a google user since the beginning. Could someone find it in their hearts to spare an invite.
I saw Gmail accounts selling on e-bay for 17 cents. Can you believe it. People selling invites? .. That's not right. Anyway, I'm not the first to post here, so I bet my chances are slim. However if someone has an extra one, that would be amazing.

Apparently in all the excitement I failed to read the contributions that were request for the invite. Well, I'm not goona lie and say I made a contribution when I am a old, brainwashed IE user. Perhaps I should start using Mozilla.
PS. From reading above, I heard "I DEMAND ONE" works well ... lol

I've written an addition to the Hints and Tips page to fix the annoying 'extra toolbar padding' in the Winstripe theme under Windows XP Classic and Windows <XP. I'll send you an email now with the HTML file.
Cheers

Posted by: Gids at July 1, 2004 3:50 PMGids, thanks! If you need a gmail account, let me know.
For anyone who is just asking for a gmail account without even contributing to mozilla or reading my blog entry, just forget it. That's not going to work here.
Posted by: David Tenser at July 1, 2004 5:21 PMEver since my cousin downloaded Mozilla I have being enjoying the freedom of surfing with a proper browser. I just want to thank everyone at Mozilla for bringing their work into such a nice product.
Recommendations:
For me, a clear history button should be available since it is used so much.
All else is well man. Thank you even if you don't send me a gmail account invite. (although that would be super cool)
Posted by: robert at July 2, 2004 4:16 AMHi Robert
>a clear history button should be available
You need the 'x' extension from http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/clav/#x
It has yet to be updated to work with Firefox 0.9 though.

I found this bug:
1. clean-up all the files in the download manager,
2. download two files and keep the download manager open (preferably download a large file and a small file),
3. the window title will show 'x% of 2 files',
4. after one of the file is over you will have 1 complete file and one file still running,
5. clean-up the files - correctly only the completed file will be removed,
6. but the window title will continue to show x% of 2 files.
This bug applies also to version 0.9.1 (tested on linux).
Do I get a Gmail account?

Posted by: damikester at July 3, 2004 4:27 PMMAKE THAT WE CAN CONTINUE OUR DOWNLOADS , AFTER WE DOSCONNECT FROM FIREFOX, AND FROM INTERNET.
it will be usefull!!!!!
I think people are confusing bugs in Firefox and features of this website. David made it pretty clear what he wants help with.
If you find a bug in Firefox, try and find it in Bugzilla (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/) and if you can't find it make a new bug. Chances are any bug you find will already be there, but it can take a while to get used to finding bugs in Bugzilla
I've written a page of guidelines for submitting Thunderbird bugs to Bugzilla. It's pretty much the same process as for Firefox, so much of the text from the corresponding Fx page remains the same, but I felt the Thunderbird needed a page like that as well, now that the project has come so far.
Posted by: Ross Shannon at July 5, 2004 7:16 PMI don't want a Gmail account, but I just wanted to let you now that your http://texturizer.net/firefox/ page still links to "Mozilla Firebird Forums" in the Links section...

Posted by: bhavesh at July 8, 2004 1:52 PMHi, This e-mail is not a request for a gmail account although I would love one. It is merely a request for someone to fix a small problem in Mozilla as I am not a developer. When I browse an ebay category using mozilla 1.7, and say I click on a an item to look at it. I will then click on it to add it to my favorites. I then click the back button which takes me back to the "top" of the previous page where I have to scroll all the way down to where I selected my item to look at. I know if I do this procedure in IE it does take me back out where I can start browsing again right where I left off. I am just coming out of 2 yrs of being unemployeed and will contribut in spirt!
Good work Team - I would love to see IE dry up and blow away.
Thanks
Here are 4 features that should be added to Firefox:
1. PROXY AUTOCONFIGURATION
in our corporate network, we use DHCP assigned IP addresses
and network configuration. Together w/ network config we send
the proxy autoconfiguration URL (code 252) which should be
available through OS API and that Firefox should read to auto-
matically configure the connection settings.
2. WINDOW SLIDERS
many times I make comparison among informations and content
published on different web sites: news, prices, technical
specs, travels, etc.
At the moment I have few effective ways to compare:
a) to keep clicking over tabs (or windows) to switch pages,
b) to align windows on the desktop (which can be a very
exhausting exercise).
Sliders should be implemented in Firefox to divide the client
area vertically or horizontally so that the infos can be
easily compared.
3. SEND ALL TABS TO ANOTHER WINDOW
I adore tabs. I can stay in one window and switch among web
sites and follow different navigation paths. But sometimes
I open new windows and I get two or even more windows, each
with its own bunch of tabs.
It would be nice to have a function to send all tabs of a
window to another window to reduce the number of open windows.
4. TABS GROUPING
When I open many web sites and pages, I end up with many open
tabs that become smaller and smaller. It would be really useful
to have them group together by web site/domain. Clicking on
'grouped tabs' should show a list of pages open on that domain/
web site.
I found these features very helpful and I hope you do. And, of course,
I hope I can get an invitation to gmail :)

Posted by: David Riccitelli at July 9, 2004 8:43 AMall pop ups are blocked i know in mozilla, is there any way, you cud sensitise the issue saying, allow these pop ups like, my site i work with needs pop ups because they are information, so let me know if this counts for a gmail invite

Posted by: imran at July 9, 2004 8:04 PMHi, to be honest I dont know a bit about mozilla nor anything like that (what about that for honesty?) Thus I am not able to give an opinion...but I do want a Gmail account. Please. If there any suggestions I am able to give is just regarding this page...you should fix the part where the logo is...it doesnt look right.
Thats my humble suggestion.
Posted by: Laura at July 10, 2004 1:38 PMhow do i get an gmail account and is it for free?
I use Mozilla Thunderbird (best email client ever!!) My suggestion is allow a way that ppl can drag and drop a client GUI from the website onto their desktop and users can access the mail server no matter where they are once they are online. They won't have to go throught the entire install process.just drag and drop an icon from the mozilla website. A company called droplets gave me the idea, but I love mozilla and thought it would be great if it could be done.just a thought. I donno if this qualifies me for a Gmail invite. I doubt it though. In Guyana ,my country, which is not technologically advanced I can't even hope for an ivite from someone here.
thanks alot,
Stacey
