My Own Gmail Account

Thanks to R.J. Keller, I now have my own Gmail account. I'll give it a thorough test drive and see if I like it better than using POP3 with Thunderbird. It would be very nice if Gmail would support IMAP so I could still use Thunderbird, since it's such a wonderful piece of software. Anyway, thanks R.J.! I really appreciate it.

Oh, feel free to drop me a line at tenser at gmail dot com. :)

Hey, if you have any available invites could you send me one?

Posted by: Mike Wills at June 15, 2004 3:25 AM

If I had invites, I'd probably send them to my irl friends. Unfortunately, though, I don't have any. :)

There's a POP interface for GMail available at http://jaybe.org/downloads.htm. I haven't yet tried it out though so I can't say how good it is.

David,

I doubt Google will make Gmail available as IMAP/POP directly. The way Gmail handles mails is so radically different from the average mail systems (searching takes a central role, folders are purely and simply gone, labels are used to cross-reference subjects) that I believe it would look like an ugly mess in a classic e-mail client. Plus, they'd lose the advertisement part, which I believe is their fuel in this project ;-).

Of course, this probably won't stop third parties to make such a program, much as was done with Hotmail with "Hotmail Popper".

Pls. provide me one Gmail account. Thanx. All the best.

It would be great to have a Gmail account. I would appreciate very much if you could send me one. By the way, since Yahoo and Hotmail, seem to block Gmail invites, then I give you my e-mail in a secure provider, in such a way that if you (or anybody else) sends me an invite, it does not get lost!!!
