A better New Tab icon?

A lot of people are complaining about the New Tab icon in Winstripe. It looks too similar to a printer. I just made some quick changes to the icon to show how it could be improved (original icon on the left, modified icon on the right):

New Tab Icon

Of course, I don't have the actual source files for the artwork, so this is just a modified screen capture. Nevertheless, I think the modified icon better resembles a new tab.

To me, they don't look like a printer, but like a first aid box. Or a toaster. Whatever.

i still don't like them ... the "web page" is still more important (bigger) than the Tab ...

I still could not identify this as a tab... sorry...

Better, definitely. Not good though.

Both are ok to me.
By the way, the new button should be placed in the tab bar like Seamonkey (not currently possible in Firefox 0.8), not in any other customized toolbars...

Hi David,

even my first reaction to the new tab icon was that it must represent a printer.

I like your proposed change.

Now somone said it looks like a toaster i'll never be able to look at it and not think toast 5-:

I do prefer this one though over the other

The right one looks better. Unfortunately the tab becomes smaller and not as easy to see/identify. The old one does look like a printer though...

Personally, I use Ctrl-T a lot and almost never use the button - I'd rather if it wasn't there!

What about the taskbar icon - i got nothing showing up - it shows up for mozilla but not firefox, i just see a windows icon. does anyone else have this?

I agree with John. CTRL+T is my preferred method, and the new tab button should certainly not be a forced button in the tab bar. If anything, it should be a preference.

Teddy, you're probably using Firefox on Windows 9x/Me. The fact that the window has a Windows icon is a known issue, and I hope it'll get fixed for the 1.0 release, since it's pretty disturbing aesthetically.

I like the first one actually. The old one. I like having the tab big and in the center
