Going official

After an irc chat with Blake it's now for certain that the site formerly known as Mozilla Firebird Help is the official end-user site for Mozilla Firebird.

After another chat with Asa it turns out that the mozilla.org/projects/firebird space will most probably be reclaimed once a new project site has been made. Ben has put his thoughts about this on print in a document that pretty much explains the whole idea. The project site will be for developers and testers, while my site will be for end-users and possibly also the "product page" he is referring to.

Things are still a bit confused (at least on my end) and we're trying to sort all this out. In the meantime, I've updated the download page to be a little easier to use, since the old project page is gone.

1.5a is a Mozilla release, not a Mozilla Firebird release.

Noticing the broken URL I just put up, I can't wait until the form autocomplete off not working bug is fixed.

Lucky you.

Have you ever thought about having a weekly featured extension or theme?

It's not the official site any more:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/ (for endusers)

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firebird/ (for developers)

I think this has been a bit of a misunderstanding. It appears Blake changed everything without asking anyone and others jumped to conclusions.

While I think Mozilla Firebird Help is a great start, I'm glad it's not the official site. Having a third-party help site as the home page hardly screamed professionalism.

I think the site would make a great official homepage for Firebird... how about just moving it to the mozilla.org server! Great work on the site!

Sounds like you jumped to conclusions in that assessment...this site is the official site for support/extensions/themes etc. The products page is the official site for selling the product to end-users (and thus the official download site).

Blake: when posting this blog, no one was really certain what would happen, not even Asa. Ben had his ideas (as pointed out in the blog entry), and it seems we're going for those now. The only difference from my conclusions is that there will be a "product site" focusing on marketing Firebird, "but heavily outsources to support site".

No wonder people were confused when you suddenly redirected the project pages to my site! ;)
