New extension/theme database

Me, Jed Brown, clav, cdn and alanjstr are discussing possible ways to merge the work done by alanjstr at Mozilla Firebird Help and the guys at Extension Room.

Our vision is to create XML databases hosted on a separate mozdev.org project which would be accessible for all of us (and perhaps even some prominent extension/theme authors). In the end, this highly scalable database will be accessible to my sites (Mozilla *bird Help), Extension Room (hosting extensions for all sorts of Mozilla applications) and perhaps even from Mozilla Firebird itself.

There are still lots of issues, both technical and decision oriented. For example, what categories should the databases include? How will the information be parsed from the different sites? What scripting language is best to use?

Hopefully, all of these questions will be straightened out soon.

aside from the cvs aspect

putting the xml file on the download mirrors would provide some more failover, and distribute the bandwidth a bit
