The list of interesting Mozilla projects is starting to fill out at http://wiki.mozilla.org/Community:SummerOfCode06
If you have more ideas for projects get them added soon.
To have the submissions ready for the deadline we need to review the projects and find possbile mentors in the next ten days or so. If you are interested in being a mentor for one of the projects on the list, or if you know of a good mentor send me an e-mail at chofmann@mozilla.org Information on what is required to be a mentor can be found at http://code.google.com/soc/mentorfaq.html
We have the adminstrative parts of this covered but we will need folks to to monitor the progress of the students and to mentor them as their projects progress, then write up evaluations at the end of the summer.
Posted by chofmann at April 18, 2006 1:43 PMWouldn't it be easier to assign bugs on bugszilla to fix, rather than do all this fancy side projects with little or no support from firefox devs. At least the firefox devs/peers can help out with bug fixes. I rather a person spend one summer fixing one firefox bug, than incrementing any closer to firefox/bittorrent integration. http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2006/Apr-13.html
In summary: "One possibility [of why they succeeded over mozilla.org] is that much of the work got integrated into a larger vessel (class libraries or other tools). The larger vessel exposed the code to more people, and ensured that it did suffer bitrot."
Hi, Nice!
