On May 1 we will be moving to the next stage of the Summer of Code Project sponsored by Google.
The Mozilla Project idea list ( http://wiki.mozilla.org/Community:SummerOfCode06 ) has been created with about 37 project ideas. 12 project Mentors have signed up to review student proposals and serve as Mentors for any of projects that are approved.
On May 1 students will begin submitting proposals targeted at the Mozilla Project idea list, or other ideas that they might have come up with. All student proposals are due by 17:00 Pacific Daylight Time. Information about how students can participate in the program can be found at http://code.google.com/soc/studentfaq.html
The list of interesting Mozilla projects is starting to fill out at http://wiki.mozilla.org/Community:SummerOfCode06
If you have more ideas for projects get them added soon.
To have the submissions ready for the deadline we need to review the projects and find possbile mentors in the next ten days or so. If you are interested in being a mentor for one of the projects on the list, or if you know of a good mentor send me an e-mail at chofmann@mozilla.org Information on what is required to be a mentor can be found at http://code.google.com/soc/mentorfaq.html
We have the adminstrative parts of this covered but we will need folks to to monitor the progress of the students and to mentor them as their projects progress, then write up evaluations at the end of the summer.
