Firefox 1.5 Beta1 to Beta2 Update is Live!
After jumping over numerous hurdles (viz. uncovering some unexpected bugs, sorting fixes, turning water into wine) we've now got the Firefox 1.5b1 to Firefox 1.5b2 update live for download! If you're running Firefox 1.5b1 you should see the update notification sometime over the next couple of days. It will be easy to try out because the partial patches from 1.5b1 to 1.5b2 for each platform are around a megabyte in size! :)
As this is the first release we are issuing an update for using the new system, we anticipate things will be smoother going forward. Here are the bugs we know about already:
- 306170 - background download fails if server returns 200 response
- 311613 - UI doesn't update when going from partial-> full update
- 311614 - Partial Update Window should appear in front of browser, not behind
Please file new bugs under the Firefox product and select the "Software Update" component. Thanks!

I'm running Fx1.5b1 and manually checked for update. It d/led the 1.4.1 patch but wasn't able to apply it after restarting the browser and now the app wants to d/l the whole thing. Talkback and Reporter are the only two items in Extensions.

Menu /Help/Check For Updates.../ worked like a charm and I went from 1.5b1 to 1.5b2 in the wink of an eye ;-) And all 27 extensions work so far.

Chase, I do have a problem of updating whan behind FW at my work. I've set NIGHTLY as update channel and to the incremental updates almost every day, but only at home, when connected directly via wifi. Should I have a talk with our FW/proxy admin or is to be fixed on AUS side? If yes, will it be addressed before the 1.5 is out?

Tsee: Could be related to a change in your installation directory that caused the partial update to fail. If you want to try out the software update feature just to see if/how it works for you, try installing 1.5b1 into an empty directory first and then select Help → Check for Updates...
ownwomon: That's great news! Of course we were always confident there wouldn't be any problems. ;)
funtomas: Hmm, the requests are sent via HTTPS to aus2.mozilla.org. It's possible a firewall rule is keeping you from being able to connect. You could try connecting manually to the update service to see if the connection is allowed. Here's a sample link: https://aus2.mozilla.org/update/1/Firefox/1.4.1/2005100407/WINNT_x86-msvc/en-US/nightly/update.xml

I'm still wondering. I have a lot of different computers that I use, and I don't want to reinstall for every release of 1.5beta-release-whatever. Will I be able to just Autoupdate from Beta2 to the full release?

So, if I downloaded Firefox 1.5Beta2, could I just auto-update it when version 1.5 (release) comes out? I mean, if not, I will just wait until the full release comes out.
